They're upset with where their once favorite franchise has gone and because of their history, they're okay with playing a game or series to see if the devs, "smarten up". Another thing might be denial or the fact they don't want to move from their comfort zone and learn a new game because the now hated game is all they know. Call of Duty is a good example. Oversaturation of the same things over and over.

CoD MW is changing the engine and the playstyle to a slower, tactical pace. The people that were once fed up are coming back and the people whom play it still currently, love or hate, will have to adapt to a much more intricate playstyle. All the 360 no scope, thruster jumping 12 yr olds will probably quit and call CoD trash when it's actually the opposite and is just hard with its Siege-like pace.

That might be reasons why, but I still fail to see why they would play that game on a day to day basis. If you really don’t enjoy playing a game, you shouldn’t really play it. Gaming is about having fun, if you don’t have fun I don’t see the point of playing it.

Usually comes from commitment, but most of this also stems from is that people play nothing else but that game simply because they can't play anything else but that. Do you throw people under the bus for it? certainly no, though it's definitely commitment.

People can talk shit about Tekken and call it trash for example, however Tekken is the most consistent no matter how many haters it's received.
