Yeah. All dudes want to destroy each other in fighting games. So when you have a guy in your friend group that actually knows his shit - he becomes an immediate threat
They never ever want to fight you again, it's so funny that it becomes sad.
When they see that you're taking the game seriously, they change their whole perspective of you. They kinda expect you to be a regular player who is maybe above average, but if you're better than the above average then they don't even want to look at you. Lol. At least with my friends anyway
It is subjective among different circles. And in mine it's not a toll on the friendship per se, just repugnant to be overly dedicated on winning when you're just hanging out with a bunch of friends. The motto is to have fun and not be too focused on being the best. It's up to you if you want to be labeled as "that guy" though. Haha
I get salty at particular aspects of games. There's times sometimes I'll get going on a rant when I should be enjoying myself. Potentially improving etc. This current era of fighting games require a special mindset.
SF played a big part in my life growing up. Though during SF4 era, most of my time in between was experimenting with different fighting games. Seeing which one I could jive with. VF is literally the only other game, I can love with virtually no strings attached. My friend says I have an issue learning and give up too easy.
