I think, much like with Dragonball, you either like it courtesy of nostalgia, or you try and fail to get into it late and it's just hot garbage.

I never committed myself to watching an anime this long before. The way it ends an ep is on a cliff hanger much like JoJo, so, it gets you hooked. I'm hooked by the Devil Fruits and their abilities alone.

I've tried giving it a go several times. Don't like the art style, humor or setting, but the deal killer is really the characters. I don't like any of them. Even in anime that I don't really like overall, there's usually at least one character I develop an affinity for. But not One Piece.
