The way I see it, in a way, Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive are Tecmo's "Mario" and "Mario Kart", I guess. They've proven themselves to be capable of selling millions and pretty much every iteration does well for them financially, even if they get criticized. They'll never die because they have a strong legacy, unless Tecmo dies (like Konami, which I consider to be dead).
