I would say comparing Marie & Honoka to Sylvie & Lucky Chloe are not best choice, since Marie & Honoka were part of a popularity contest that decides who gets to be included to DOAX3 (due to KT limiting budget/resources). While Sylvie & Lucky Chloe were created by development team with no need of a contest due to publishers giving developers less resources.

Plus audiences for each games tend to have different taste or reasons to play as certain characters.

They are the cutesy anime characters for their respective games. Marie and Honoka were popular way before the contest and them ranking so high further proves it when other girls couldn't even come close to them. Not to mention them being guest characters and the main focus in pictures and official merchandise.

That's the point I'm getting at. Marie and Honoka only became big because the DOA audience likes them. In any other game they would have bombed.

I mean Tekken is a game that's focused on the Mishima family and trying to end the devil gene. Like Lucky Chloe isn't meant to be taken seriously. She's a joke character. Marie and Honoka became important because for one, DOA always focuses more on the women (Which is why DOAX exist) and two: Honoka and Marie have ties to big story characters (Marie w/ Helena and Honoka w/ Raidou, Ayane, etc.).

That's like comparing Lara Croft to Elena from Uncharted and saying Lara Croft's more popular. Well yeah, cause she's the main focus where Elena's on the side cause we care more for Nathan Drake. A better comparison is like Chun Li and Cammy or some shii. And I don't think much of the DOA audience really like Marie and Honoka. I mean you look at tournies and even certain sites and see much criticism.

Honoka and Marie were popular before they were put in the story. If the audience didn't like Marie and Honoka they wouldn't have gotten so big. They would be like Mila and all the other girls no one ever talks about. The tiny circle of people complaining doesn't mean much when their popularity results, appearances in other games, and merchandise prove otherwise.

But even if, their interactions w/ Ayane and Raidou in doa 5 (A main character and a main villain) showed that there would be some significance w/ them as characters which showed investment. And then add DOAX3 and their popularity in Japan skyrockets. Compared to Lucky Chloe where at most she was made to troll Eddy players and became a troll character in a game where the story isn't focused on Lucky Chloe ever.

Lucky Chloe never had a platform to really develop as a character cause she was never the main focus. The main focus is Mishima's and Kazama's. Marie and Honoka were always a big focus, heck even the aspect of Honoka having a secret and such meant that she would be important in someway shape or form. And put them in a game like DOAX which prioritizes the DOA women and the rest is history.

Marie released in 2013 and Honoka in 2015. Nyo released in 2014, has interactions with other characters, and has a connection to a boss character and Ryu. DOAX3 released in 2016 and DOA6 released in 2019, the first game where they have a role in the story. From 2013 to 2018, what story were they the main focus of?

Lucky chloe was a new character for a new game, not a DLC, so she had the upper hand in gaining traction and popularity but failed to do so. Marie and Honoka were DLC characters to an updated DOA5 but gained immense popularity quickly. Lucky Chloe had a platform to develop because she actually had cutscenes and a story ingame. Marie and Honoka didn't until 2019.

Nyo was in the exact same position as Marie and Honoka but she isn't as big as them. Why is that?

Nyo is popular though regardless. And her, Honoka, and Marie have better traction than Lucky Chloe. Again, you're comparing characters in a game that does prioritize them as characters vs someone in a game where at most they're a troll character saying "well this characters more popular than here." She never had the "upper hand" in gaining traction cause she was never a priority.

How's Lucky Chloe gonna gain any traction when the main point of Tekken is to tell the story of a messed up family rivalry and fighting "devil genes", and her only interaction was with Eddy turning him to a meme? Compared to 2 characters in a game where the majority of even DLC is catered towards the women roster, DLC characters always gain traction, regardless of their reception, both have ties to

main characters and even Nyo as you can say she made an appearance in Nioh, another Team Ninja title, and Honoka and them had interactions w/ Kasumi and such in Warriors all stars. And to top it all off, they have an appearance in the DOAX series and are main characters in DOA 6. Like Lucky Chloe was doomed from the start compared to Marie and Honoka.

You can say "For DOA 6 female characters" they're successful and such, which is true. But comparing them to a character from a game where they're not even a side character in the game isn't a strong argument to why Marie and Honoka are good, engaging characters in DOA. What does it say about the playerbase? That Tekken doesn't prioritize "Loli's" and such. The closest one's Alisa.

Nyo is nowhere near as popular as the 2. You're ignoring 2013-2018 and only focusing on DOA6 (2019) to claim they were "prioritized". Marie and Honoka had nothing but intros and outros for 5+ years. Show me where they were prioritized in DOA5U/LR. A maid and a highschool student, who had no role, cutscenes, or screentime in the story, grew more popular than any other character in a game about ninjas...

How am I ignoring 2013-2018 when I just gave you two games that heavily talked about them in Warriors All stars and DOAX. And Honoka having interactions w/ Ayane and Raidou teased what was to come in the future. And the argument isn't about whether Nyo is as popular. In fact, Nyo wasn't even the debate. The debate was comparing Marie and Honoka to Lucky Chloe.

And again when you have a hidden lore about her and Raidou sharing similar powers and Marie being a maid to Helena who was also a main character in DOA 4, you have footing to go off of. Tell me what footing Lucky Chloe had? All you saw was a troll trailer and then after her character story which turned Eddy Gordo to a meme character. She had no interaction w/ Kazuya, Heihachi, Jin, Kazumi, heck even Nina...
