A lot of these were givens, but it's cool to see Granblue Fantasy Versus & Skull Girls get some spotlight on the big stage. Seeing Melty Blood there is cute haha. I notice the lack of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown. (Really wish that game got Rollback netcode).

Outside of KoF and Melty Blood this line up is snoresville, alot of these games are just too old or too boring for my to get hype over

but who knows, high level competition is always fun to see and maybe that alone will get manz hype, we shall see

The lack of DOA and SC annoys me but at least Tekken is getting some play along with SF. Don't play or care about the other titles

I like this lineup, the only one i'm rather snooze about is MK being up there.

Games I'm interested in watching is Guilty Gear, KOFXV, Granblue, DFBZ and T7.

Thing with EVO is that it's a business sadly so DOA not there is no surprise. DOA not there makes sense (not because of Wizard despite that's one of them), but DOA wasn't going to be up there anyway because it's a lion's den vs those other games when those games have a better backing+brings in more money.

Sometimes companies even pay their games to be up there. Smash Ult. was one of them last time for example.

Not only that, but entrants & numbers usually also matter there at EVO sadly. Even if people ask TN to do it, TN would be smart not to do it because they can lose more than gain more. DOA is incredibly niche when it's the same exact people traveling for the game. They want more people playing the game, but it's hard because other games exist.

It's why people always say "DOA doesn't need EVO" which is true.

I'm just glad Melee is not up there again for like the 20th time in a row. Smash refuses to let that game die for some reason. Not trying to squander dedicated fanbase, but having it as a main stage game numerous times for such a old game almost every year is just wild. They could at least be a side tournament game.

Just typical Mainstream EVO lineup, nothing special (just with SSB missing).

@KasumiLover The lack of DOA should be no surprise since the last time it was on main stage which was 15 Years Ago, usually a side tournament game never the Top games in events. SC is a series that gets its spotlight but later loses until the next SC game comes out.

Melty blood is more recent iirc, SC hasn't had an update in almost a year iirc

Wanna know how DOA4 got into EVO? money. (it was also the highest payed game at the time).

Wanna know how DOA5LR got a side tournament at EVO? TN put money in there and out of Tom Lee's own pocket.

Take it with a grain of salt that you must always expect EVO to not put DOA up on main stage unless its paid, you can ask Matt too. EVO is a giant tournament business lol.

Can't just pick any game to be on main stage, not something from a piece of paper in a shuffling box:

1) Easy way, get that game's company to pay for it. DBFZ did it, Smash Ult did it, Street Fighter did it.

2) Hard way, history of high entrants and consistency in other tournaments. Good tournament rep. Media. Player growth. (BlazBlue, Melty, Tekken etc.) TN should go with option 1 lol.

Every other local or major: Heyo sure! let's put your game in on main stream stage.

EVO: Uh, we looked at the game's history and well...we don't want to take the risk. I mean if they are willing to pay for it I don't mind ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Side tournaments are still very good btw, gotta get the community to push for it as a side tournament at least.

Yeah, DOA6 had no chance, and quite frankly the boat has sailed on that one until a DOA7 (or maybe a DOA6U). DOA6's track record isn't strong to make it in on "history of high entrants". Games like SCVI (and SamSho) unfortunately suffer from lack of support and updates (last one for SCVI was Dec. 2020).

The rest of the games deserve to be there to an extent (GBVS is admittedly pretty borderline, along with SG's). Another thing to note is 6 or 7 of these EVO games have rollback netcode (which ironically BB has now).

Granblue was a game that had little to no chances to grow due to Covid so this might be what the game needs in order to fully come back to life. The rest is kind of normal, pretty cool to see Skullgirls and Melty being main games. A lot of other fighting games would've deserved to be part of the main line-up but there were far too many that were released in the past 5-6 years or so.

At the very least they'll be side games, better than nothing. Got nothing to add in regards to Smash, Nintendo messed up that one.

DOA6 can make it is a side tournament at EVO, there's still room for it. I highly doubt TN will pay money to put DOA6 on the main stage (which is like the -only- way for -DOA- to even be on the main stage). And like FoN said, that ship sailed long ago. There's no battle tour, same exact people traveling etc.

DOA has to let go of EVO. You'll get better love from NEC, Final Round, ECT, DTN etc.

Now that Wizard is no longer running Evo with his strongly hateful bias against DOA, I can now be genuinely happy for the people whose games made the main roster. Yes, that even includes the Tekkenheads.

But this shouldn't deter anyone for supporting the game they enjoy playing that didn't make it, nor make them feel less of a person for doing so.

Indeed. Mr.Wizard hated DOA & SG's. Glad to see SG's get a chance at least.

On a different note, this is now Tekken 7's eighth EVO mainstage selection. Damn, will this game get a decade straight of EVO's? (In perspective TTT2 barely got two EVO mainstages).
