Granblue had a rough start, quite a chunk of players were putting their all in that game. I think Granblue is definitely a game that deserves a chance.
man, i aint gonna iie (with the exception of melty, KoF, and possibly skullgirls), this lineup is kinda of a snoozefest , but that's just me being old and not understanding what the kids today are into these days :/
honestly it's more than the grand return to EVO after a 2 year hiatus is a lineup of games that we've been playing since 2017, that's what bugs me more than anything, how I feel about each game individually is all personal bias
So games that's been around since 2017 should just get shafted, because...? Normally I would agree if those games are taking spots away from more deserving titles, but if you look at things objectively in terms of relative popularity/scene? Not really.
(Also, Skullgirls is a 10 year old game to put things in perspective).
You also have to keep in mind that very few notable original fighting games have released post GBVS in 2020 up until now compared to 2019 or earlier. The EVO 2022 lineup is perfectly understandable. It's not EVO's fault that very few notable fighting games have released in the last 2 years.
Skullgirls is 10 years old but it's one of those games that has so much freedom in it's mechanics that new optimizations are always being found out, which keeps it very fresh and exciting, which is something I can't say for half the games in this roster
But ur right, it's not EVO's fault for what's been happening for the last 2 years, these are just the cards we've been dealt
Yeah but EVO is dubbed as the biggest fighting game tournament, therefore it has to have the big title games and/or biggest fanbase and/or biggest playerbase, gameplay doesn't matter nearly as much, even if I find SCVI's gameplay better than Tekken's truth is Tekken is a bigger name, has a bigger fanbase and playerbase.
Also the reason why MK11 was 7th on participant rankings a few weeks ago but despite the playerbase not being 100% happy with the state of the game it still received a spot because its MK (or because they want to announce something at EVO so they payed big bucks in order for it to be a main event), also the reason why we have Melty instead of UNICLR, cause the latter did get more or less killed by COVID.
