I wouldn't voluntarily bring it up, but I love that series, both the anime and the game (NEOGEO CD peak version, awesome music). I bought the VHS back in early 2001, lol.

2001? dayum, i just watched it for the first time last week lol, and did so w/o knowing that it was adapted from a video game, although in retrospect that does make alot of sense since the movie barely has any setup and is largely just flashy characters with light characterization getting into fights for an hour and a half, but the artstyle and the character designs are excellent

Yeah I was 13, I wanted to get it ever since I saw an ad for it in EGM. I even made a point of watching it again in 2017, I always wondered if I was gonna do that... XD
The game is pretty neat, it's an FG with a Mega Man style mechanic where you can choose to take one of the moves from each opponent you defeat. Unfortunately it's one of the few Neo Geo games that never saw a rerelease in a collection or anything.
