Scratch out Xavier's name in my first response, that is a typo.

" I'm not exactly "bad" with Ayane but do recognize her limitations a bit." "I know how good Ayane is, but something seems off about her." No, you're not recognizing the character's limitations. You're not accepting the fact that you're utilizing her in a limited way, because you're not bothering to learn what else the character has and other things she can excel at.
iHajinShinobi
iHajinShinobi
You've ignored her 5K as an extremely potent ranged tool and that tool alone is what makes her keepout so formidable since it's coupled with everything else. Characters like Genfu, Hayate, Kasumi cannot simply just waltz in because of it.

You play with the mannerism of always wanting to strike whenever given possible. When you're supposed to mix up approaches and condition then pounce on read. That's what all of her movement is for, that's why NO ONE ever has a great time getting in on me because I am not making anything easy to read, especially not during approaches.

Here's the thing people need to start realizing and learning to accept; If all a player can focus on is just what their character is limited to, then your mind for further creativity and exploration to create more strengths or more favorable situations are going to be very limited.
iHajinShinobi
iHajinShinobi
If a player can accept what their character has, and what their character is, then they'll focus on utilizing their character's strengths to masks their weaknesses, and make everything else as potent as possible to make the character shine.

This is the reality for players who excel so well at a fighting game and can keep digging for more information to apply to their game, while vastly improving their knowledge of the game. If you cannot accept this reality, then you're always going see something in a limited manner.

Lol, Holy shit that's a long response. It's expected I suppose. Yeah I know Ayane's a pretty godlike character, but I can't put my finger on something that just seems off about her. On paper, she should be dominating a lot more than she does. She's scary as hell to fight as well.
iHajinShinobi
iHajinShinobi
No, on paper she seems like a one-trick pony and horrid character that relies on gimmicks. Played well, that generic paper info is a myth. Something seems "off" about her to you because you're not furthering your play exploration.

Ayane isn't a button for buttons kind of character either. She is a character that requires her player to read the opponent well for bigger reward, with a very solid neutral and range game.

The only possible bad stuff on paper for her is how "negative" she is on block (and on NH) for most of her strike when there are multitudes of ways to play her safely. She doesn't seem like a one-trick pony at all on paper or in practice, that's just how she appears from online play. She has a shitload of potential for creativity compared to most characters.

I'm guess what I'm thrown off by is how I rarely see anyone dominate with her offline and she does get used quite regularly. I know how much of a fucking monster she is in this game and an absolute terror to fight.
iHajinShinobi
iHajinShinobi
Umm, no she doesn't, and when she actually no one aside from me is really doing anything with her offline, in the U.S. because people don't apply anything well enough.

And Ayane is a very difficult character to play at higher levels, more than the other strong characters in the roster.

She is indeed challenging to use, but far from being too difficult to manage (for the most part). I just wish there were other offline players that would realize just how amazing Ayane is besides just bitching about how annoying she is to fight against. So many people whine about my Ayane offline >.<.

You really need to play some better players if you think Ayane isn't difficult to use at high level. Players in your scene do not capatilize on your mistakes as they should. Mistakes kill the character, you are supposed to play with the least amount of mistakes. That is what makes her difficult.
Force_of_Nature

Did I say Ayane wasn't hard to use at a high level? And that's what I meant by she can get wrecked easily offline. Any mistakes can bury her fairly quickly. I think it's her relatively unforgiving that may cause some people to avoid her. It's a lot of pressure to fight without mistakes. But that's what also makes her incredibly rewarding to use. No regrets for choosing Ayane as my main.

"She is indeed challenging to use, but far from being too difficult to manage (for the most part)." That implies you said so, generalization or not. And I can't trust you saying you have no regrets when you've spent quite a bit of time seriously downplaying the character pretty hard.

I meant in comparison to the rest of the cast such as with Brad Wong for example. She is hard to use but is definitely manageable. I don't have any regrets using Ayane, she's fucking amazing to play. She's not a bad character in the least but I guess I'm just trying to keep my expectations in check. Is she that much harder to use than most other characters that people just avoid her at higher levels?
