From the end of the Capcom Cup where one of the people running it said that in a paraphrase that continuing to support Street Fighter supports all fighting games...which is pretty much the exact opposite I've ever seen.
A mild issue I'm having with SF stems from the notion that I hate feeling "forced" to like or care about a game just because it is popular. I.e. If I'm a fighting game player I'm apparently supposed to care about SF.
Well, actually I would argue that they do. You see, when a big event like Capcom cup happens, more and more people hear about it, you never know, SF in general has always been the gateway to fighting games. What does somebody usually say when asked what was their first fighting game? Either MK or SF. TLDR; More people playing SF = more people playing fighting games
@Force_of_Nature Exactly. Even if it is the Capcom Cup, saying something like that even if it's from a good place is honestly pretty fucking condescending to my eyes. He really could have worded that better to get his point across than that.
@og23 That COULD be the case...but it sometimes never is. Ultimately the only thing showing plain up Street Fighter and having everyone want to support Street Fighter = more people want to support Street Fighter, that doesn't mean suddenly more people will support Mortal Kombat.
