In my experience, the kind of aspects that make VF5FS difficult are similar to the attributes that make DOA5LR difficult. The fuckload of MU knowledge you need for both games. Any of the VF players that have played me in DOA5LR offline recognize that difficulty.

I don't know how complex VF is since I haven't played it competitively, but I will say DOA is slightly easier to me because performing 1 frame attacks and combos aren't too difficult compare to VF. However, in DOA, facing smart players who uses fast characters is insanely challenging and lack of character knowledge makes everything one sided especially if you're an average DOA player.

I always wonder why people think VF is harder.

Off topic: I think a lot of people don't even bother improving there fundamental because there's so many shit you have to learn.

VF is no different but for some odd reason getting out of pressure on VF is easier to me lol.

VF5FS's execution isn't that much harder than DOA's on average. Not every character is like Akira for instance. DOA makes up for having easier execution by being miles more situational for its setups. I.e. you need to know a lot more setups and need to be a lot more adaptable compared to other fighters. If DOA had, say, KOF's execution requirements, the game would be ridiculous.

People think VF is harder due to reputation and because the game requires a fuckload of MU knowledge to be successful. You basically need to know a lot of stuff. Execution is not what makes VF "hard". People, usually 2D fighter players, are not accustomed to having to account for so many options and specific stuff at any given time. That's what gives them difficulty in games like VF or DOA.

DOA isn't that easy, yeah input wise but DOA is very complex

Now, VF mainly has the execution and MU barrier, but in their current iterations they're both pretty even, however, pre-VF5? No way, VF was nearly an unapproachable game, do you remember the throw game in VF4? You literally had to be a psychic or cheat, i'm not even joking.

I only played around with 2 characters in VF, but both of them had an incredibly steep learning curve. Add this to the fact that combos must be memorized in VF whereas in DOA you can wing it, and the entry barrier is far less forgiving in VF.

VF isn't too hard, it's just really technical, which I love. There's also lots of strings and stuff to learn, but you won't really use all of them in every match.

VF4 is arguably the hardest fighting game out there, but VF5FS toned it down severely because it's kinda hard to expand the player base if hardly anyone can play your game or cares to play it. VF's movesets on average are deeper and more complex, but there's also only 19 characters to learn as opposed to 34.
