Game would need to be heavily retuned without critical burst.
Lower life to compensate for lower damage, more natural combos, more moves that put you into stuns like limbo stuns, etc.
Nah. That's actually pretty useless.
Any "tournament mode" should bring in features that are actually useful for a tournament.
In game bracketing isn't really useful considering we can already use things link Challonge or Xfire to do that.
A Tournament Mode should actually have features that are useful for tournaments.
-Hold start for 10 frames to pause
-Be able to set number of games to win a set (i.e. 2/3, 4/7, etc.)
-Tied to the above, system should keep track of score.
-Winning player isn't allowed to change characters. Loser...
With the new Get Ready Fight video series, I'd like to see an in game version that lets players practice the same things that Briana is trying out in those vids.
Honestly, teaching beginners how to delay and not mash is a great idea, not just for DOA, but for 3D fighters as a whole. Too many beginners just tend to mash their buttons, not knowing that some timing is involved.
That's the problem. You're thinking that something should do damage based on visuals without thinking about whether or not it should do alot of damage based on what's good for the game.
If you look at most, if not all competitive fighting games that allow for player interaction within a combo...
Monty was (and is) FGC. As mentionedby our friends in Tekken-Zaibatsu (in SRK's front page post on this), he used to post alot over there back in the mid-2000s and used to play alot to, maining Xiaoyu.
Probably because the projected demand in the West for a last gen disc version isn't enough to cover the extra cost, considering the need for production, storage, and most importantly, shipping and handling (especially since the continental US is way bigger than Japan).
RIP.
Many people forget that Monty was also a developer who worked at Midway as a combat designer, before moving on to Namco to do the same for the Afro Samurai games. His dream was apparently, to make "the most awesome fighting game ever," something that he will never be able to do now.
