For example, there's a long-time PSN user who basically only uses Kasumi's 66PP, 66K and 1PP despite playing the game for years now. I believe that after a few days with the game, even a newbie should be able to beat that person, despite clearly having put less time (and probably effort) in.

I understand not wanting a complete novice to rival craft veterans insofar as it would indicate poor game design. On the other hand, I don't believe that time spent with something should necessarily be the primary factor in how competent/successful you are with it.

Under my proposed system you would still be working with six buttons. They would simply be intelligently mapped rather than deliberately separated to give an artificial illusion of depth. When my "heavy punch" button is dedicated solely to kicks, it's a pretty good indication that you fucked up...

But that's far too logical for a 2D fighter dev. to fathom. So instead they bumble about arbitrarily with no fucking clue what they're doing and retain their audience thanks solely to brand loyalty.

If it were about making them more accessible, they would just change the Super input entirely. Ex: you have one punch button instead of three, and the move changes depending on directional input. Now you have four free buttons to assign to Supers, Ex moves, V-skill and V-Trigger.
