    Dead or Alive competitive commentary

Two man team is enough. Great commentary teams are like great classic comedy acts. One guys acts as the straight man and does a blow-by-blow account, the other does colour and provides the background info and the hype. The second is more important though, as I've always maintained, the purpose...

SRK: Community Matters – Or Why A Game Is Legitimate Only If There Are People Playing It

how did this thread go from building(re-building) the community to voice overs (were they that bad?).

    New Doa 5 Characters

Do what Mike_Z is doing with Ms. Fortune in SkullGirls. Map all commands for the second character to one button. In the aforementioned example, once she tosses her head (separate character), everything the head does is mapped to Fierce - none of the negative edging and whatnot that you have for...

    New Doa 5 Characters

Would love to see how a character who could control a sort of sem-independent "sub-character" would work in this engine. I mean, SCV's already experimenting with bringing the concept into 3D with Z.W.E.I. and Viola. The only problem would be how to make such a character fit. Would probably have...

Does the amount of cash prize really help the tournament scene?

If it means that eventually, players didn't have to work anymore and could instead, make a living out of doing something they loved, then I say "fuck yes" to more money.

SRK: Community Matters – Or Why A Game Is Legitimate Only If There Are People Playing It

Lion sounds like the worst of Saturday mornings back in the late 80s.

    New Doa 5 Characters

Whoops, my bad, I saw someone type TKD and for some reason that was the acronym for kickboxing.

SRK: Community Matters – Or Why A Game Is Legitimate Only If There Are People Playing It

Bumping this. Hates over at 8WayRun has written a nice little article that, while mostly focusing on their game (SCV), has a few points that compliment my own points here. http://8wayrun.com/threads/hate-speech-we-are-the-world.9298/

    New Doa 5 Characters

Joe Higashi is the TKD guy with the tall hair from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters. I think you're referring to Joe Musashi.

Irene Lew, it's been over a decade and it's high time she did more than get kidnapped for Ryu to rescue.

New to FSD? Introduce yourself here.

Far East (as in Asia, Philippines to be exact). Because unlike people over there, I'm not really a fan of how insular the various FG communities can be at times.

New to FSD? Introduce yourself here.

Signed up here because Mr. Wah quoted my article. Honestly haven't owned a copy of DOA since 2 Hardcore and only get to play 4 casually during downtime during our local stream. That said, the series has always been a guilty pleasure for me.

DOA4 tier list based on tournamanet results?

Basing tier lists on tournament results doesn't work since tournament results can influenced by a myriad of factors outside of the game. Also, basing it on this removes the most important part of any tier list - the match-up chart behind it.

    Guessing and "Competitive Advantages"

Both however generated the same criticism - that of "guessing." Also, for punishing pokes in SF. More often than not, the emphasis is on footsies, meaning reading the attack and counterpoking with a normal with better hotboxes (or, if you were on 3rd Strike, better priority). For example, if I...

    Guessing and "Competitive Advantages"

If you put it that way, then a better comparison would be to parries in SFIII. Similar to holds, parries were controversial and accused of producing "too much guessing" at high level SFIII matches and that traditional "footsies" were replaced with people simply fishing for parries. The main...

Tournament system of choice for DOA5?

PS3 frame delay is Capcom's fault, not the systems. Realistically though, just play on whatever console the tournament is using.

GameSpot: DOA5 Impressions from the Press Event in San Francisco

Hey, would it be alright if I shared these on SRK alongside the GameSpot video (with a link-back to FSD off course?

Does Dimensions Tell us much about DoA5 gameplay? DOA5 Press Event!

Just as long as it doesn't allow for a dramatic reversal. Actually, speaking of MvC3, early builds of that game actually had it so that counter exchange gave you a free air combo. That off course was changed once players expressed their disapproval.

Location Test for DOA5, where should they be?

This. Before thinking about EVO, you need to make sure that the game at the very least, gets some time on local majors. That of course means building your local community to the point where the game can get into those majors. Once the game gets momentum from those, then you can think about EVO.
