Critical Bursts Q/A

I still wonder how in blazes anyone survives a piercing void ninpo in their face. Or the guillotine throw (which decapitated Black Spider ninjas) for that matter.

How does anyone survive Tengu's :9::P: :F+P: /:426::F+P:? They're skull would have to dislocate.

Well he's not using piercing void in DoA for starters. It's something new because the first time he showed off the attack was in DoA4's ending.
I had heard it was the piercing void he used in that ending. I figured it was just slightly altered visually due to pre-render quality (not effect discrepancies on A-152 from in-game to pre-renders).

I'm not sure how long after the NG series DoA4 is but it's probably a good 3 years going off of Ayane's age. Pretty sure she was 14 in NG/B and she's 18 or 19 in DoA5, which takes place 2 years after DoA4's ending. Really it doesn't matter because I don't think they tried to work the NG games into the DoA series chronology, but still. Interesting to think about.
Wow, so they actually aged the characters for once? It did seem a little silly that DOATEC held so many tournaments in less than one years time span.
Any idea when NG3 takes place? I know chronology is not their thing with both series, but I'm curious with the way Ryu's hair was cut short in that, but then shown back long again in Dimensions (clearly not leaving him enough time to re-grow it that much). It kinda lead me to believe it took place after DOA4, but usually NGs occur before DOA.

Well, anyway, Off-topicness aside, I'm actually glad the critical bursts have been nerfed. The counters have been overpowered in the past (4), but I do appreciate the triangle system and don't want to see it handicapped.

edit: @Forlorn: Beats me. xD

^ Aging of characters most likely due to Sweden banning DOAD. Don't want it becoming a trend with other countries and DOA games... But yeah another story for another day

CB nerfing doesn't bother me. Have you seen the bikini videos?

Are CB on the most part mid attacks? It'd be nice since it would lower the % of low counters used to cancel a stun (as in normal throws deal more damage than low throws).

Speaking of which, anyone know how it acts if you get one on CH/HCH?

I can only speak for how it works with Helena, if you land her :7::P: it cause a deep stun outside of landing CB. I'd think it would be the same for other characters.

I don't even understand why the CB is even in the game anymore at this point. What happened TN? You were doing good, then someone in your team threw shit at a fan and got it all over everyone >_>

Honestly? I think the original intent of the CB was to give power blows a purpose. Prior to E3 they were pretty useless outside of whiff punishment. With CB's they have a bit more of an impact on the game. Granted I don't agree with the changes and I think it should go back to how it was in the E3 build, but this is my take on why it was changed.

I believe it was changed to grant more chances to hold.

I don't mind either way. The CB was still a threat in the latest build we got our hands on; it just required more work to get to it. While I don't think it's very important to some characters anymore, it still benefits some of the cast. Really, that's about the same as relying on any other core mechanic like throws and such. Some characters simply have more use of them. That's how I'm seeing it, anyway. Doesn't need to be a universal system mechanic like counter holds, despite the chance that it would have been more interesting that way.

Possibly, but I'm still under the impression that its original intent was to just give power blows more meaning during the fight. Without CB's you most likely wouldn't see a power blow very often outside of a whiff punishment.
