Did anyone notice this? (Mila's face? 24 total characters?)

It's hard to think it the best DOA when it may not even compete with DOA4 or DOA:D in terms of character content, which is pretty dang important in a fighting game.

Not really. Balance and good mechanics are what matter.

Isn't it the 25th yet? I'm so over all this BS....LOL.

Bad news, my friend. It's still the 6th. Look at the bright side though, at least August has finally died.

I'd think balancing good mechanics with more characters would be a more impressive feat.

Overall, I find it really difficult to think they would ditch any series character for any reason whatsoever, other than Kasumi Alpha or Shiden, simply based on their strictly clone-esque styles.

If you think about it, all they had to do was remodel and add a few more animations. The majority of the content was already there from previous DOA games for these characters. I just couldn't comprehend them suddenly trashing an aspect that they obviously spent a culmination of 4 games working on, in respect to ein, leon, and tengu.

I suppose, but a big roster isn't really important to me, and a bigger roster means more room for character imbalance. If we could have all of the cut characters from DOAD and still have a balanced roster, that would be great. It's very unlikely however.

Look at TTT2 for example. It's confirmed to have 55+ characters. I'm not excited by that at all. All that says to me is that the character balance will be horrifically broken.

Tekken 6 was balanced pretty well. TTT2 is just Tekken 6, but better.

I've never played Tekken before, but will probably get TTT2. I hope you're right, but I can't help but feel skeptical of such a massive roster.
Tekken 6 was my first Tekken. I mean, I played Tekken tag and Tekken 3 in the arcade once or twice before, but buying Tekken 6 for the 360 was the first Tekken I actually played for hours on end.

I think my dream of DOA5 regarding a full 3d forest environment and hunting down your opponents was inspired by the really neat mission mode in Tekken 6. It was like a classic beat-em-up adventure mode with full 3d control of your character (any character you chose) wandering around these extra environments that weren't part of the Vs. stages, just beating up enemies and continuing the story. It was really freaking nifty, considering you had your character's entire command list at your disposal, and they managed to get it to work in a full 3d environment by simply having a lock-on-target button so your directional input for commands were strictly left-facing or right-facing.
edit: added a better video.

Really surprising that DOA hasn't gone the way of other fighters in terms of customizing your character, even if they're only just character-specific clothing/accessories. Maybe in the future...

It's the 7th here, hehe. Not that it matters much, because I'll probably have to wait another week or so to get my CE copy shipped here. That is going to be absolute torture.

The Amazon page is out of date. The guide isn't even finished yet. It will be done... today? If not today, then tomorrow. No point in updating Amazon every week. We give them prelim info based on the outline, then once the guide is done, sites like Amazon get updated.

I wish I had more time with the guide, but I think it has turned out very well.

Sorry, I can't count Akira and Sarah as new characters, I only count them as guest characters. It's been 7 years since Dead or Alive 4 and then later they made DOAD, I am still disappointed with just two new characters= Mila and Rig, but the game still looks good. For me the more, the better. More characters=a long lasting game and more for your buck. The balancing crap is not an issue for me and plus you could win with any character if you use your brains lol. DOA 5 to me is pretty balanced already, the counter system pretty much helps that. The roster is not balanced in terms of the type of characters you select. Example: Bass is the only big man in the game, lacks more diversity in fighting styles and race, nationality etc, and I'm quite sure you can find more things-maybe this would be done in Dead or Alive 6. Dead or Alive 5 should be up to 28 or 30 characters already, and Virtua Fighter is behind as well. Although TTT2 has over 50 characters, they do have a lot of clones, but it still has 40 original characters- too bad the gameplay is not as good as DOA 5 or as fluid. If it was it would be the best fighter by far, but for me it's not.

I'm sorry but that game mode was what made me sell the game in the end. It was hideously looking and added nothing but frustration since the gameplay on the fighting game didn't translated that well to that game mode and hindered the experience for me in the end. (Still will get TTT2)

I rather have them do a story mode with cutscenes a la MK9 or DOA:D. The way of making a mission modes like that takes space of what could probably be more stages or more higher quality assets for the core game ,more costumes, characters, moves, etc. IMO Console Tekken 6 visual complains were created thanks by that game mode which from what it seems most people didn't liked.(The 360 port had nothing to do with the game washed out visuals IMO) Put that mode in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and probably the quality of the product would have been lower in order to push that game mode in. Gotta know what trade of are you doing with the game in order to put that game mode.

If they want to make an action beat em up with Dead or Alive (Which I wouldn't have problems with if it were well done) make it as a stand alone product than a poorly made mission mode.(maybe in the next generation can be doable who knows but this one doesnt look likely without making sacrifices) Knowing how Tecmo Koei works it would end up being a Musou game so I guess for most of the part I wouldn't buy it.

I hope I dont come out as aggressive since I'm only posting the opinion in a calmed manner.

How do you go off topic here?
The excitement levels are becoming too much - lol. I think I've reached anticipation overload and a tremendous indifference has washed over me as a result.
We'll know in less than 3 weeks.
<I'll still be hunting down every substantiated word about the game in the meantime though ;)>

Someone should make the story mode or Dead or Alive 6 wishes thread so I can complain about not beat em up story mode/Mission Mode there.

I wouldn't want that Beat em up mode either for DOA, at least the one that was in Tekken 6.

I meant just having that freedom of being able to take full control of your character in a fully rendered beautiful environment, then chasing down or finding your next opponent at which point the game would then look and play like DOA as we know it. No need to be running around punching in the faces of random army dudes and demons like Tekken.

I figured math wasn't your strong suit.
-_- Whaat?? What do you mean? I calculated 24 characters x10= 240 plus the introduction stuff which makes it 310. So it must be 2 or 3 characters left...

Well, Dogg, you did say approximately so it could technically be more or less. I still think the final roster size is 24....maybe 25 if a boss is playable.
