DLCs, Ideas and should NT give some free stuff.

Ok hi this is my first post here. And I'm from Buenos Aires Argentina.
Still I love fighting games since I was able to reach an Arcade Stick now at 30 I’m Playing TTT2, DOA5, VF5, SSF4, UMVC3, SC5, all in the PS3.
I suck but I have fun, if you want to test how much I suck ill gladly loose to any of you any time I’m online ReyVagabond is the name. Yeah the lag will be horrible!

But back to the idea. I like some of the DLCs of the game, but I have not bought any of them jet because I don’t like them “all”. And I fear that once I buy one ill want to buy them all, still they are expensive as hell. And I feel they are not worth it.
And why there is not Compatibility patch?

So my cheap bastard mind came up with idea.

Free DLC for the Community.
The idea is simple, once a certain threshold of sells of any given DLC, there could be a Poll or something. And once a month or so with the release of the second DLC of the month, they add a free DLC with those winners costumes of the ones that reached that threshold.
Some people might say, but I have bought it I don’t want it again for free, its not fair for me that I bout it. Or something.

I can say two things about it.
-One you are giving back to the community. Think a game with more content will create a more tempting game to buy in the long run. And because you don’t know what costumes of the pack will be available for free. You don’t know if you will get eventually what you wanted to buy.

For example let’s say the Threshold is 10k DLCs sells (let’s say PS3 and 360 together).
DLC-1 pack of 5 bucks contains 4 costumes. Once it reaches 10K sells, it enters in the lets say Facebook poll. One of those 4 costumes comes out a winner and will be added to the free pack. At the end of the month or when ever they fill these packs should be available.
If it reaches 20k, the same DLCs, comes back to the poll with the remaining 3 costumes. Till we have them all, and then where is no point in buying it because every one will have it for free.
I know this will remove the unlimited amount of money a DLC may bring to the table.
But knowing it will add Value to the game so more players will want to buy a more “Complete game” expanding the community is a good idea.

And because they will keep doing more and more DLCs, and 90% of the player base will not buy them most of them. Like myself, I like from all the DLCs, like 5 costumes for all different packs. So in the end you know that not only you buy what you want but also give something to the community so more players can have a more content for the game.

-Two, for those that really don’t want to feel like they lost their money because a costume that is not for free in a pack they bought, then for those people they could get new DLCs for free in the future as a gift for being a loyal costumer.

Ok, so I know that with the amount of DLCs TN is giving DOA5 is most likely not every one will buy them all, and if the plan is that only a few buy a few, then its not asking much that the best sellers go for free to the community.

Also, it could be Grate that once every 3-6 moth they add a Story DLCs, a lot of people liked the Main story of DOA5, I personally didn’t like it. But for 10 bucks or so I could buy a story DLC that came with the Story costumes.

Even then they could add DLC characters with the story DLC, where the DLC characters are an update for free but their stories and a few costumes comes with the paid DLC.

But well that’s some of my ideas in the matter what do you guys think.

As paying DLC buyers would you be ok, with the idea, you would change it?
And what are your ideas?

Listen, we all want free DLC, but that is not going to happen. So far we have gotten one free pack, and the beach stage... which I don't think would have been free if they wouldn't be releasing it with the patch. It'd cause major compatibility issues to only offer it to paid users. Everyone who views this will agree that the DLC for this game is at an ungodly price. I just cannot pay 1200msp for all these costumes that aren't the greatest, offer nothing for the characters I use, and again aren't the greatest. These packs should be no more that 400msp for the whole pack. I love to support the games I play, but this just isn't doable in this economy. I doubt we will get any story DLC, character DLC, or anything of that matter. Team Ninja was straight forward when they announced the DLC plan, adding no DLC characters to the list. At most, we'll get a few stages and more re-colors and boring costumes. Sucks, but that's how it is.

I guess content that are on the disk, could become free DLC, right ?

Well, then, what is unfinished content of the game ? Leon ? LEON !!

That’s why its part of a marketing stunt. I put more thought that it looks

Creating games it is all about a long production time and then cashing in selling the product with a small team to update and do the DLCs.
TN has already spend the money (salaries of the people creating the game), the DLCs are icing on the cake. (With some luck the game was build with a smallish team and they could have recovered all the money invested with game sales, after that profit.)

The curve of Supply and Demand dictates at Lower prices the demand increases.

Now, WE have been getting bad DLC at high prices (or not worth prices) that I think 80% of the active play base does not buy. (I included).

For example if they keep the DLC flowing, more and more content will be locked out of players because of the Cash barrier to have access to it. It’s all good that is stuff you don’t need, but nerveless we want them. And we want them all.
Never underestimate how much a gamer want content.
There is a reason why the GOTY editions with a couple of DLC some times sells as good as the game at lunch, or the give a game that has not sold well in the past to have a new player base that’s buying it.

A fighting game is all about the Community. How long it will be played = big sales for the next installment or DLCs, For example if the game is played at EVO, I think the sales of the game will go up the next few months. I have some friends that only bought UMVC 3, after watching EVO 2012. I had it from the start even after I cursed to the gods that just like 8 months ago I bought MVC3. But still I loved it.

So, Longer lifespan of game increases the Player base, more tournaments, bigger exposure, bigger player base = bigger Sales.

Now if The Plan is to sell DLCs to increase the games profit, its smart marketing, to 1º increase the player base, 2º give more for less money.

Once the proses of creating the DLC that it done, after that it’s all profit.
Now if you want to keep doing DLCs it should be smart to try to spice things up.
Adding Different kinds of DLCs.

For example a Story DLC. Could be something different. Something cool.

New Characters for FREE, with a DLC with their story and Some Costumes could be cool.

But back on why adding some free content to temp new players to buy the game is good.
Knowing that each DLC you buy gives back to the community.
And the threshold could be paying for the staff salaries of the month.
If TN could form one DLC keep the DLC team working giving one costume for free to the play base I think it’s a good tradeoff.

It’s like if you support us we support you more that the usual.
Games are a fan based industry it’s rare that there is any other industry like that. The more you create the illusion that you give more to the fans the more your company will be backed up, and that will generate more sales, at the end of the day.

For example we gaming community feel that AE is the DEVIL, and there are reason for that.

Still I want to hear more opinions.

and Leon, Could be an excelent DLC with Story Character addon.

You add a patch with Leon for free with 2 costumes, And add a DLC with a 6-8 story fights, with 3 more costumes, and there you have it. a Grate DLC, that more that one could gladly pay 15 bucks for.

Or stuff like If we arech the 30K DLCs sold we will add for free the next DLC with a new character. so Guys keep buying those Costumes.

Something like a give and take. its all about giving back to the community and having the most played Fighting game.

What's a "high price" or "not worth the price" to you, may not be a high price or may be worthy of the price to another.

Yes that’s right. That’s me I don’t have numbers I just go to forums here and there, but it could be helpful for the tread state your posture, even if we the people that read this forums already know that, for those that don’t.

So for you 5 bucks for 4 costumes is grate price and you own every one.
Every other player you know in real life and network own them all.

Is 5 bucks a pack a price that encourages you to buy them all?

As I stated I don’t live in the US and it is Some what expensive to buy a DLC that I don’t find EXCELENT.

For example, a Skyrim DLC could go from 5 bucks Heartfire to 20 Dawnguard.
I for Dawnguad I played 20 bucks and I thought it was a good DLC, new armors new quests, new spells, cool story.

Now, for 20+ bucks in DOA5 I can get 2 bungles so 24 costumes or 4 5 bucks for a total of 16 costumes, TN adds 6 packs every month.
And maybe I like some of those costumes and not all. A costume is something very personal.

Now, for my taste they are expensive, personally I could buy a Character bungle for 25 where I buy in advance all costumes for X character.

But that’s not the point of the tread actually. The thing is the idea, of having a system where 1 costume of the most bought packs is added to a free pack to add value to the game so new players buy it, and stuff like that.

For me, I'm not buying the $5 packs, I'm buying the bundles and saving $2-3.

For me, paying $0.75-1.25 per costume is a fair price considering the Artist who has to create it (both in 3D and in textures), the QC that is required to test it, the certification process to certify the content, and the bandwidth to transfer the content.

So buy all their shitty DLC like their retarded swimsuits and palette swaps in exchange for real DLC?

They're giving out "real" DLC for free. They aren't going to charge for characters and stages, and they've been sticking to their word.

Fuck they should put up some real costume DLC, I'd buy that. Even if it's just C2 and C5 from DOA4. Helena's costume DLC has been terrible since the first one which was free.
#1 C1 from DOA2
#2 Tina's cat costume from DOA4
#3 Lei Fangs black skank dress painted white
#5 Collectors edition swimsuit
#6 Santa outfit
#7 Another bikini

I'd love to support their DLC but they gotta offer something worth buying first. I know bikini's are easier to programme than full outfits but not all of use care about sticking our characters in underwear. Some of us are grown men and last time I checked there was a hell of a lot of gay guys around here too.

I would pay for Gen Fu in a diaper though, just so I could go out and troll!

-The cost of branwidth is next to nothing.
-the cost of the work for the artwork and so on is already payed for.
People have jobs they go nine to five, thats it, thats why i say once some DLCs reaches some point where it covered all costs or reached sertain profit margen.
They should add some Bonus like Have a cookie for gives us so much comunity.

Also if they add each costume indivialy at $1, then most people could not complayin.

Adding Patches is nesesary in todays gaming to keep the playerbace strong so when the next instalment comes along we will buy it, pre order it, and so on. Even Super Street Fighter 4:AE gets patches, every game does.

But thats just me trying to think out of the box, to help the game and the community, as hole.

Care to breakdown the costs with sources and figures?

I guess I just like costumes that suit her personality. It's kind of like when I watched the movie and Helena came roller skating in going Hi!!!!!! This was right after playing through her DOA4 storyline. It just didn't look right.

Plus she lost to Christie, that match up was in her favour and of course Christie was a low tier slut back then!

OMG this moment is godlike. I show the movie to some friend of mine who knows that Helena is my favourite character ever, and he was like "really" ?
And now, everytime we go roller skating, he is doing that stupid imitation of Sarah Carter by spinning in place and saying "Hiii, welcome to DOATEC".

Anyway, Helena's only good DLC was the free one (red opera coattail from DOA2).
Can't wait to see these "new creators" someone have been talking about one day.

And yeah, TN sticked to their words for the stage DLCs, so I'm not complaining about the fact the costumes are pricey.

there are 2 things preventing me from even bothering with their costume dlc

1. no compatibility pack so people who didn't buy them and download them won't be able to even see em

2. they continue to focus bringing out costumes on characters i couldn't give 2 drops of monkey piss about which is everyone but eliot; who only got one dlc costume after all this time and its a lame ass rig hand-me-down

Poor Eliot, he didn't get much love from TN lately.

I feel like they want him to inherit Gen Fu's wardrobe in DOA6 after his death, anyway. And his moves, gameplay, buffs and haircut. Can't wait to see that long blonde braid.

Oh fuck, please let this happen!

Gen Fu should be in the story mode lying on a bed, with Eliot by his side and simply utter "You would look good *cough cough* in a pearl necklace...". Then his tongue drops out to the side and his eyes become crosses and he dies.

Make it happen TN!
