Doa 5 Girl Community...

I have been apart of the DOA community for over 6 years and I have always played with the core players because it was a learning experience, a challenge and most were close friends, I never felt like because I was a women I had to stay with women, I just feel that in a community for gaming we are all here to game, I don't think we need to separate both genders at all. I really fully agree with everything Rikuto is saying, but that's just me

yes there is, and a separate place to meet just for women is not really needed imo, regardless if you are male or female we are all here for DOA
There is a choice to remove the likes from males..... We do not scream no men at all.... everybody is welcome... and i say again.... We just started and eventually everybody will be welcome to join ..

Notice that DOA was the only game divided by gender among their entire lineup?

It's because politics like this were allowed to exist in the first place. And all of the players on that show were payed 30K a year regardless of their performance. There wasn't a single female player in existence as of the recording of that show who actually deserved to be on there.

As the show existed for two seasons, that means the ever-so-deserving female doa community who was only trying to promote peace and happiness and blah blah blah ended up stealing approximately $1,080,000 BEFORE actual winning bonuses.

And this all came to pass due to the PMS clan saying the exact same things you are saying right now.

Again Mistress, not saying this is your angle. The PMS clan is a very special level of corrupt. I'm just saying, it all starts the same way.

Ouch! So who is really the blame? The people who ran CGS?Or the female DOA players? I mean no disrespect when I say this but you really have no say on who does or does not deserve to be any where. Especially if someone earned their spot.Your experience an how you see the CGS was different from mine. I got to see women play not only videogame's but fighting games at a competitive level on national TV. Other than a few snippets of EVO streaming a match with a female player (most of those snippets are of Kayo Police) you rarely see female gamer's play in a competitive environment.

The female DOA community didn't steal what was given to them. The CGS set the structure and decided to pay the players who "earned" they'e way on to the show by playing in combine tournaments. Even Vanessa after awhile had trouble beating and even loss to female players who were nobodies and by your view didn't deserve to be there.

I agree that politics should stay out gaming but sadly it does exist. Politics exist in everyday life. The FGC is not free from it.

Wrong from the British line up. Both Sarah and Ruth in season 2 were brutal players when I met them. They destroyed their competition and played on par with the males.

As I recall SarahLou took on Messy after the tournament section and it went 3-2.

I think right now people are getting too heated about this entire thing. It has become a debate instead of a discussion.

Someone made a point that the FGC is a hard one to come into? I disagree. I joined and spoke to a lot of high level players when I was a noob, I managed to miss a lot of the scrub phase as I understood that my opponent wasn't cheating, they were better than me.
The point is most communities are open to people of all skill levels, you just have to want to improve. And that is key! Because if you are creating a more social experience, which I'm going to assume this female DOA group is now, then skill and improvement is not the focus, it is the game being played. This is the vibe I get from your posts so if I am wrong I am sorry about that.

The one thing I'm not happy about seeing was the little comment about
"We also have practice sessions where males come in and teach the girls Basic Strats to the game"

Wow... now that is sexist. I'm male and I was taught the game by 3 people in my time training. Thanks to 1 of those, who was male, I got the basic system down and he helped me out a lot.
Thanks to the other 2 I was able to become a competitive player and got a 2nd in 1 tournament with my Tina. Both of these were female. My friends list for DOA4 was about a 50/50 split. Your sex does not matter! Sure men can be a bit more competitive by nature but what it all came down to was self-improvement and just being a nice person.

My final note on this would be, I never struggled to join in as part of any FGC because I loved the genre and I loved the games I played. I never struggled because when I spoke to people I was polite and I tried to put forward information, if it was wrong, it was wrong. When someone else was wrong, because eventually I actually got to a decent level (in the past) I explained why. If you follow simple rules of interaction with people there should be no falling out. Yes you will always get elitism but fuck! People are like that and to bring that in a little more... these usually are male!

TL;DR
Gone slightly off track but... Women can stand their own vs. men. Excluding people from a tournament for their sex and then saying "oh well men can teach us" is bullshit (it is) and we should come together as a community. Treat people with respect and act like a bloody grown up. Someone is wrong, explain, don't bitch.

I understand what you guys mean and I'm not picking sides, but I think you're talking about something completely different here. Mistress is just trying to (and I'm gonna sound so cheesy) create a safe environment for girls to compete without having to face the huge pressure that can come with competing amongst men. Mailifang explained it very well. Just a "place" for girls who don't have that OOMPH, to just compete and have fun and build up the confidence to move on and compete in places where everyone is welcome. And of course if they aren't as skilled, the better players will come out on top... I don't see why this is threatening to anyone.

Basically promotions enjoyed the fact there are so many females playing DOA. They wanted to show that there are female gamers so the put the spotlight on them.

In theory, it's a nice thing to promote female gamers to come out and play together by showing the amount of support they have.

In my personal experience, doing this only ends up further segregating the sexes. It's fine to have a gathering and such and promote fun competitive play for your fellow gender. The issue is that by putting up a wall it ends up looking more like a ceiling.

CGS decided to make a Male and a Female version of DOA4. The female division did not play against the males in official matches.

So what happened was, and I'm using obviously exaggerated fictitious numbers here, but let's say out of a group, 80% are male, and 20% are female. Now, let's say out of the top 20% high-level competitive players you have 95% male and 5% female. If you want to have a whole league for both individual genders, you will need to bring in more 'low-level' players from the females to balance out the roster.

This ends up making the females look "weak" in comparison to the males, because there are less of them that can compete with the males in the game.

Had CGS just not doen a segregated gender competition, the girls could have had a better showing by actually competing with the entire pool instead of what was effectively the shallow end. Any person can learn to play, but the level of competition the player gets is what effects how fast they can learn. In the case of CGS, Vanessa had been playing for well over 5 years online with the "entire pool" of players, and most of the females in the league were just picking up the game so she easily won against all of them because she was at such a higher level than they were, because she was used to playing "in the deep end". However, I doubt she would have gotten the 5-0 undefeated streaks had she been up against the male division, not saying she would have done terribly, just not as easily. What's worst about the CGS set up was that a female could never play a male in a match. So this effectively could be looked at as "You're just not good enough."

Evolution ran into a similar issue when they decided to host a "Female only" SF4 tournament a year or so back. It was meant to show the amount of females in the community, but all it did was make it seem like "No, you have to have your own tournament." even though they were allowed to enter the all gender one. Of course other issues came up, where players who were transgendered or were not born a female would be allowed to play.

Just ramblings of how I saw things. I think segregating the genders with money, fame, and ego on the line just leads to bad things and would rather a female just make it to the top by playing with the same players everyone else does. It just seems fair and equal to me.

However, that's not to say I don't condone the event you girls are running. Just saying my point of view on things.

I see what your saying. Even so when it comes to competition men and women differ on certain levels. Some people see it a weakness others see it as just given an opportunity to play, and others just say screw it and want to be the best in whatever they choose to pursue. They will fight and tolerate the bullshit, gender/ racial discrimination, and politics because they love to compete and want to be the best.Sadly not many people have this mentality.

COMPETITION dictates who deserves to be showcased. Not gender, and not me.

I happen to simply stand on the side of competition.

FYI, I don't blame the random females who tried out for CGS. They saw an opportunity and they jumped at it. They had no influence over the decision to include a female bracket.

The blame, however, lies between the producers of CGS, key members/admins of DOAC who green lighted the decision, as well as the PMS clan, because that clan had a very, very strong hand in influencing the producers to go that route. There was a ton of backdoor politics leading up to that decision.

Most former PMS members all said something similar to what mistress is saying, that their clan used to be about creating a safe environment for females to game, etc. In reality that was a side goal. Their leaderships end game was about playing politics and seizing power/money in a world they knew they would never be able to compete in fairly.

There is absolutely no excuse for that.

Ok, I have two questions.

1.When men are allowed into the group. Will the group have a name change or will it remain the same? I don't know if it's DOA Mistresses or DOA 5 girl community.

2. Pardon this one if its already been stated. Which system will this group be on?

I also wouldn't mind helping the female players that REALLY want to learn and get better competitively. I hate dropping knowledge and it goes through one ear out the other. I don't care to participate in any of your online tournaments, I don't play DOA online as much as I use to nor do I compete online.

I see what your saying. I agree that based on what your telling me is that the PMS Clan most likely had some political agenda and influencing the producers of CGS decisions. I myself can't really fault them at their attempts of using whatever "street cred" they had to have some say over a televised program. What PMS Clan has done can be viewed as counter productive by those who were snubbed out of the show or those who want to keep a high standard of high level play seen by those not embracing the game. But for competitive female gamer's like myself it showed me that female competitive play had some support and it does exist. It was inspiring. I started organizing my own DOA offline tournaments and gatherings because of the high number of female players in the DOA community and CGS

Now if CGS just decided to recruit who was the best in the DOA High level community you probably would only have had 3 or 4 women on the show.

This isnt a clan.... its a place where girls can meet up.... talk to each other...etc... There is no Roster.... we just aknowledge girls who are good at the game... and want to prove they are....

Yea, again. I had to fight my way through obscenely difficult players, being a male. I had to devote myself to something entirely just for a chance, a chance at being selected. The females did not have to do any of this. They did not have to put themselves through any of what we did. We were not naturally born to play video games better than females, its not genetically wired in our brains to simply "be better" at this. This isn't a physical sport. Girl gamers can be just as good as male gamers, they simply choose not to be. They should not have been rewarded for being lazier than everybody else. That's wrong and I will accept no excuses for it.

We had to work for our keep. The females were not expected to do any of that, and the mere presence of that female bracket stole money from players (myself included) who had worked very hard to make our way into that.

Can you blame the PMS clan for using their "street cred" to influence the decisions going on at CGS? Yes, Yes you fucking can. Because it was dishonest as hell and absolutely nothing justifies it. Because it doesn't matter that it showcased female players (see: Belle) making truckloads of money for no reason and it made girl gamers around the world feel better about themselves. Why would anyone want to wake up in the morning and aspire to be a fraud at something? (in case you don't know the story of Belle, she was the worst DOA player on the show by far and was selected for both seasons because she was sleeping with one of the GM's.)

What a horrible thing to teach young women.

I just gonna add my 2 cents here before things get a little chippy.

*It is not sexist for female gamer's to have their own all female gatherings. They just want a place to gather and game without having to deal with male drama. Most guys I know have their own gatherings because they don't want to deal with our (female) drama as well.

*Both sexes I feel need to be among their own once in awhile.

*I don't know if many of you have been to EVO(I have once) it is not the most comfortable place for female players. The majority of the females there were cosplayers, models, and girlfriends to some of the male players. I had fun at EVO but that's because I get along more with men than I do women lol.

* The majority of the FGC is made up of guys between the ages 19 - 30. Quite a few of them are obnoxious and immature when dealing with women around other other guys. I've had a lot of incidents where guys just like to "bullshit" and things got out of hand.I can tolerate trash talking on a mature level but when it gets sophmoric and insulting then it becomes offensive.

*Many female players find it hard to become comfortable in male dominated highly competitive environments. Especially in a "frat boy" type of environment where guys are well....being guys.

*I'm not saying all guys in the FGC lack maturity. Most of you are mature. But when you all get together and let your hair down the level of pure testosterone may be too much for a few female players to deal with. I'm a "hood rat" so I'm used to being around and dealing with men on they're level.

I guess all I'm saying is that a few you shouldn't feel offended or discriminated against. Be men and claim your ballz. Stop being so darn sensitive. ;)
This post is so awesome. I wanna add to it.

I haven't been to EVO, but I feel a kid that is 8th grade to high school should stay home and play locals and wait until their 18. That's what I did at least. I at first wanted to go EVO my freshman year of high school, but my mom said no. I kept bugging her though. But I myself decided not to go to EVO when the SC community started making threads and very harmful jokes about me. I got picked one a lot because I was one of the youngest members on the site that took the game serious. I told I earned their respect, but that took time. Even though I'm 19 I still get the same bullshit from some people because of my young age. So women and kids under 18 have it rough in the FGC.

Sidenote: We had this really cool female SF player. and all the girls in Chicago actually play fighting games. So they aren't on the sidelines just cosplaying or hugging their man after a big win.

As far as the PMS Clan doing what the did I can't really hate them for it.Because Men use those tactics all the time to get what they wanted. Was it dirty? Based on what your telling me dayum right it was dirty! Just proof enough that both men and women are equally capable of doing some dirty shit.

I wouldn't want to teach young women something so dirty either. From what you telling me I cannot fault you for the way that you feel. If I was in your shoes I would be just as pissed off.Wow...You learn something new everyday .
