I learned this for the first time while doing some research, but the first edition of the Saturn version had an infinite combo.
The one on the left is the limited edition (first edition), and the one on the right is the regular edition (second edition or later).

There are two versions of DOA1 for the Saturn: Version 1.001 (Build date 1997-09-10) and Version 1.002 (Build date 1997-09-12).

The first print has the infinite relaunch Hayabusa bug but Team Ninja noticed and printed a bugfix two days later.

If you get the Limited Edition version with slipcover, it's guaranteed to be the earlier version; but if you get the normal edition it could be either version.

You can check which version you have by examining the file dates with a PC.

You can check which version you have by examining the file dates with a PC.
On the physical disc you'll also be able to tell which version it is by the inner ring stamp.
Version 1.002 will say the following:
Code:
T-3603GP-01863A

Whereas version 1.001 will be missing the A at the end.

Sadly, as far as I know, there's no way of knowing which version you have based on the disc packaging besides the Limited Edition.

Nice find. When I did the retro achievements I could tell the difference between the versions seemed to be related to the Training Mode. I would have to confirm but my hypothesis is it's a training mode exclusive bug.

Edit: Ah, nope. It's not limited to training mode.
