Hayashi is a damn pervert, so the fuck what? And making it obvious on what the game is, yet not bothering to even CHECK FOR YOURSELF OR MAYBE THE TOURNEY SCENE if the game is even playable let alone good is just forcing yourself to be ignorant.

This is the same thing with Arcana Heart(which does the same thing and surprise surprise, it has good gameplay too) and even various anime games are being slapped around like they are pandering BS.

@werewolfgold I'll respond to your post later on soon.

I'm a tournament player, i'm against this like most tournament players because it hurts the game image. Hbu? Do you play offline? And honestly, i have played arcana hearts the game is really awkward and I don't like it not for it's image either.

I play offline with my brother and my friends see it as a viable game, but they play so many other fighters, it gets lost in the shuffle. I already told you countless times why I can't attend tournies: I have no job. Otherwise, I would have atleast visited EVO to see some of the DOA players in general.

As for the main argument, Hayashi is ONE MAN, you forget Tom Lee? One of the other producers who isn't as perverted as Hayashi? Half of TN who knows they may be crossing the line and gave the ok for Tom Lee to even ADMIT THAT IN AN INTERVIEW?
And Game Image? I'm sorry dude, but this image is stuck, just like Mortal Kombat being a gory fighter that took TEN GAMES to be Tourney viable(It's rarely played in majors anymore and Injustice is reaching that level just as quickly), Tekken which is casual unfriendly incarnate and Guilty Gear, Blazblue, Arcana Heart as being pandering anime trash, etc. The ONLY means to combat that image is show actual good gameplay and get newcomers on board, the TNA can only keep people entertained for so long(seriously, there have been so many games that have used Tits' and Ass, yet they burned and failed, what does that tell you?)

Yaknow what?

I only even bought 5 because I thought Mila was hot as hell mountpounding peoples faces in with c2.

But I don't really know if that counts as sexualization, especially since I hate how they keep giving her stereotypicallly sexual outfits instead of more like what got my interest in the first place.

I admit, I buy the DLCs, but that's mostly me trying to support TN. Same reason why I buy music from iTunes; to support upcoming artists. But yeah, I'm right there with you, I really like the original costumes alot better. But alot of Leifang's and the doctor coats were my favorite as far as women go.

Plenty of other games have been commercially successful and featured attractive female characters (Bayonetta 2 anyone?), so why is DOA any different?

Nobody stays long-term on Bayonetta 2 because it's a single player title. Micro bikinis in DOA turn a profit to TN but it doesn't help people stay active in the game. It's actually the entire opposite, it's driving the competitive crowd away.

I don't think so, they don't have to buy those micro bikinis and still be happy with the game. Tom Lee said it best.. "We are creating video game characters in a fantasy setting. Their actions, aesthetics and overall visual presentation is more than obviously set in a light-hearted, over-the-top, candy coated universe. The dissimilarity from REAL life women, situations and settings should be pretty apparent as soon as you start our game. And we feel most gamers in this day an age are sophisticated enough to make this distinction quite easily."

I'm inclined to agree.

MK's popularity was highly influenced by it's gore. Anime fighters I can agree with but it solely depends on the game. BlazBlue and Guilty Gear are examples. I like Noel & Litchi in BlazBlue because they have good personality and the fact that their roles doesn't take over the entire game of what the other characters do.

Also, it did not take MK 10 games to be in a tournament list. It started it's reign in MK3. Dropping that there to whoever said that.

While it's not fair to assume that all people who indulge in "fantasies" such as this think a certain way about real-life women, telling the difference between reality and not reality isn't really the central point. Seikon no Qwaser is clearly not based anywhere near reality. That doesn't mean that people can't take a look at it and decide that maybe it's not for them, even though it's a "fantasy".

Yes, we all know that the core mechanics of DOA are pretty solid and you don't have to buy anything that you don't want to in terms of costumes. But, if you take a "competitive" person that isn't quite into "IT'S LIKE I'M WEARING NOTHING AT ALL!" and all they see the devs releasing is "sexy, naughty, fetish" etc. as add-ons to the game, they are likely going to start feeling like they're not who the game was "really" meant for. They may continue to stick with the game despite that, but since there are other fish in the sea, some people won't stick around.

Now, TN is well within their rights to just tell those people to get out of the kitchen if they can't handle the "hotness". But, it gets to be more complicated when maybe you have on one hand a fan that was on board all the way up until things went "too far", and maybe on the other you have a fan who has sworn never to buy anything that's not dental floss for the women or anything at all for the men.

So, the question is how much should the "identity" of DOA bend to accommodate people who are getting sick of the fanservice. How much would the "identity" even be compromised? How many people are being kept away vs. how many people would quit if things got "classier". How many people are going to quit if things don't get classier?

TN might be caught in the Catch-22.

I don't see how that honestly makes sense.
Whenever I play DOA, even WHEN I pick a naughty costume, in serious fights, it completely gets zoned out of my head. I play Mai Shiranui and Juri Han, for goodness sake and I rarely focus on them when I'm playing, so I don't know who honestly gets flustered by something like that if they play with a freaking micro-bikini of all things. If someone actually used that as a reason for why they lost...I have to start playing the re-evaluation game fast on how they think they can be pro players at any game.

I wasn't implying that it would be a reason why someone would lose. Just as a preference.

I dunno. Appearance matter to some people. Sometimes, even pro players have their specific color or something that they use sometimes. If the costume/color just got tuned out, everyone would just be using defaults probably.

Okay, because if what you said was true, I was pretty much just gonna laugh and walk away...

I actually have a friend who jokes (I'm assuming) that the reason he can't play DOA is because the girls make him hard. Uhm, what? Lol, even if I pick a skimpy outfit for Ayane, it's usually only to get a reaction out of those watching. I'm too focused on the fighting instead of the actual costume she's wearing at the time. And it's as if people have never seen women wear bikinis and one pieces on the beach before. Sure, some of the swimsuits are a bit much, but then again, there are much worse swimsuits than those in the game.

Right, so when DOA finally hits EVO material again on the big screen for the amount of time it has been absent..people are just going to boo the player off the stage for wearing a string with a little bit of the buttcrack showing. Should the player using that outfit care? No he shouldn't...now the grand audience will probably feel different and I can truly understand why.

He's not joking. Back then, sometimes I had to take a break between arcade runs in DOA3 with Christie just to control myself, for lack of better words.

Correction: People have never seen pixelated beauties as well-modeled as the girls of DOA wear bikinis and one-pieces on the beach before, much less a fighting game. Back in the day, such beauty was unparalleled as far as 3D fighters go.

I think it will be okay. There has been saucy stuff on deck in EVO and it hasn't been a big deal. Plus these people are going to Las Vegas, I'm surprised EVO doesn't have show girls already at the event by now.
