I really hate the way TN/Tecmo is managing the marketing of this game.
couldn't agree more.
imo, DOAX etc took an incalculably big bite out of the franchises future credibility - now it seems like all they've got... and therefore to outside observers, it seems like all they've got. a couple of bullshit exploitation games and they handicapped what by now could have been THE 3d fighter. we could be on DOA7 instead of 5, and the mistakes we see now could have been addressed 5 years ago.
They don't seem to understand how in most territories, that after a point, overplaying the T+A card turns toxic. That or they don't have the resources to do it any different - or they're not confident they can compete in ways beyond their "strength"... maybe they can't. I thought they were going to start addressing one of the core reasons - public perception - that this game isn't taken as seriously as it deserves when i saw "i am a fighter". flawed or not, this franchise, at this age, should be walking into EVO etc, the second name on the card. But no, their choices, their marketing and their DLC fanservice fucktardery means fans are having to throw their money at the problem. seriously, how many sodding bikinis do they think it takes to sell the game to the guy who likes bikinis? (if you're reading this TN, the answer is a hand full, *fnar fnar* not dozens
)
after seeing that trailer, i think i'm done. I was all set to buy a Vita for this game, but not now. I'll stick with DOA5 because it has the merits for me to do so, and i'll keep trying to learn the game. and I hope there's a DOA6 in the future that the authors themselves can take seriously and invest in taking it seriously - until they do, why should I?
witness the power of marketing.
