DOA5 single player/casual thread

They could always follow the Blazblue route and give you the choice of unlocking the characters through single player or paying to unlock them. They did it for DOAX2. You could either build a relationship with your partner so that they would accept the more risque swimsuits or you could pay for them.

By the way, it must be said that the two ways aren't completely complementar, because the swisuits bought for a girl are not considered by the game part of her collection, differently if you are able to donate them to her during a vacation.

I still have dreams about the Master Chief (listen to me, Master Chief) being an Xbox 360-exclusive and his costumes being the Halo 3 armors...

Wait wait... did people actually play DOAX2¿ Why!¿

I don't have the characters on DoA4 because my save won't transfer to a new xbox and it takes way too long/is way too boring to go through the game to get everybody again.

Shit is stupid.

Exactly, "Shit [was] stupid." I agree.

People like their single player modes, that's great. Just give me all the characters in Training, VS and Online without having to unlock them. You guys can spend hours in Story Mode to unlock characters to then play through Story Mode again to see the unlocked character's ending (or use them in Survival or whatever else). Both parties win... just don't make me suffer through single player modes I would never touch just to unlock a character.

Beyond the girls in bikini you say? ;) Honestly I find the game funny, able to keep you entertained if you are interested to make collection in single player or simply to spend some time with a beach volleyball game without a real target for playing. Off course a similar game is not for everyone, considering like some of the Doa's players of this forum aren't interested to collect the outfits in the main series (or also just to play in single player modes). A similar argument for Ninja Gaiden, a game a lot different from DOA, and indeed the fans of a game often are not fan of the other (or at least don't play a game at the same high level like the other).

Anyway I surely say that DOAXBV is far away better than DOAX2. While the first one seems sincerely looking for to be a real pseudo simulator-party game with the fanservice own of the Doa series, the latter was extremely oriented just to the fanservice with practically everything the game offers directly and indirectly (IMO also exceeding in it); and in this process forgetting other important elements of the first game, first of all the possibility to play offline with a friend (and also choosing the swimsuit that you want for the versus mode). Also the volleyball mode of Doaxbv seems to be better done that the one of Doax2.

It's sad to say, but i think that if there is a game made by TN with less heart and overall for commercial purposes, that it's Doax2 and not DOA4 or Ninja Gaiden 3 where probably their errors were sincere from the producers and due overall to miscalculations (also if for NG3 I can have some doubts considering the name "Razor's Edge" for the WII-U version, choosen long before the out of the game for Xbox and PS3, and that seems recall precisely the dismemberments).

I had no idea this much was going on in the thread.

I will say this though about unlockable content. If some of you guys think working to unlock stuff on the disc for free is a pain in the ass, wait 'til you spend the same amount of time unlocking stuff on the disc, but no matter what you do, you still have to pay for it to be unlocked, and worse, wait until the actual complete version on a newer platform gets it several months later to even pay for it.

I had to go through a lot just to unlock Christie in DOAD, but I didn't get mad about it. After seeing practices like those with SF x Tekken in recent memory, I've come to realize we really had it easy back then, and this is nothing to get salty over. I'm grateful and open-minded enough to appreciate the fact the character is playable, and knowing there's some sense of satisfaction working to unlock her for free, as opposed to paying extra out of pocket just to unlock her when she's already on the format.

The music doesn't worry me one bit. At least on the 360 I can plug my iPod and listen to whatever-the-hell I want while playing. Many costumes could be either very good or very bad. If most of the costumes will be like Kasumi's black ninja suit, Kokoro's gym clothes or Busa's classic NES clothes I'll be VERY happy. But if they fill the game with crap like the clown costumes for Zack and Hitomi or Eliot's sailor costume from DOAD, I'd rather have 3 or 4 then. The bikinis are pretty much confirmed either for CE or DLC, but they will be there.

Another two things that I would like to see integrated in the game:

1) The return of the animation for Time-up Game Over like in Doa3 (from an idea of "The Fourth Sibiling" from DOAW: I had completely forgotten about them  )

2) If exist the Random selection for the characters, why to not add also the possibility to select Randomly the outfit for the character. Personally in DOAOL I use almost ever this option, for varying the look of the character without always return to the selection screen (well in Doaol don't exist a real selection screen, but I talk for Doa5). More, I like the factor 'surprise' XD

I know this is a DOA forum and we're all used to huge boobs in the things we love but Havik, I find your avatar really disturbing. Isn't that Naruto character like... 11¿

I can agree to this, just as Skilletor said, both sides should be given a choice. Good thing my characters are there from the jump, excluding Sakura from both SFIV and SFxTK.

I put it this way, I don't mind all characters being unlocked from the start because not everyone likes Single Player content outside of training mod So with that being said, there are plenty ways to keep offline content expensive, I'm looking at MK for the reference.

MK set the bar to be honest. Even though I personally didnt like how the game flowed, I enjoyed the little time I spent in single player modes (the epic story + the tower with all the different challenges). It was pretty damn fun.

DC vs MK was just as epic storywise, even more so for the fact that it had comic book characters. The way they blended in the two worlds, and the way they explained the vulnerability of the superheros in the dimentional screw up was awesome! Although the game was kinda shit >__< (If you're a stick player you can't sidestep cuz its done with analog , LOL)

In any case, I'm really hoping for a decent story mode. if its anything like DOA:D but with acctual voice commentary and acctual cinematics instead of stills then it might be pretty epic! (as long as we can disable the tutorial elements)

We'll just have to wait n see.
