Pretty sure D3v is the main reason why DoA is covered at SRK at all. Honestly TTT2 apparently isn't even well liked anymore either. From the low entrants at last Evo and dwindling signs of life since then I wouldn't be surprised if no Tekken game happens this Evo.
And it's interesting you point that out, because the Tekken community is the main one that comes for DOA. But they need to face reality that even Tekken is losing it's hold on the fanbase. TTT2 is cited as too bloated and Namco has turned the game into a joke. It's sad how 3D fighters were once the mainstay, but now, 2D fighters are taking over again. I have nothing against 2D fighters at all, but 3D fighters just give me a rush that 2D fighters don't. I spend hours training in 3D fighters and hours playing them. I get rather bored of 2D fighters. Ugh, I'm starting to ramble. I'm glad D3v is there at SRK to post some DOA related news at all.

I thought Namco was giving the fans exactly what they wanted. Sure, I didn't get Gon as a playable character, Lili and Asuka didn't get a "spin the bottle" ending", the so-called "tutorial" was unconventional, the choice of swimsuits mostly sucked ass, and Feng Wei isn't dead... but for the most part, TTT2 delivered in spades with content, and with little need for piles of paid DLC, no less... and this is coming from someone who hasn't been fond of Tekken for a very long time until Zafina came along.


It's sad how 3D fighters were once the mainstay, but now, 2D fighters are taking over again. I have nothing against 2D fighters at all, but 3D fighters just give me a rush that 2D fighters don't. I spend hours training in 3D fighters and hours playing them. I get rather bored of 2D fighters. Ugh, I'm starting to ramble. I'm glad D3v is there at SRK to post some DOA related news at all.

...Okay. It's just saying that she has the smallest boobs in the cast. ("Pai" can mean either boobs, or well...pie.) It's thought that her chest doesn't move, but the arcade's internal b-move settings were applied in advance (therefore the person writing doesn't know).

And Rey Juan is actually Leifang. lol It's saying that she's a hold character similar to Leifang and her "sabaki" parries with how she can negate most mid punches. And that she's likely super-lightweight (like Alpha). The other stuff just seems to be interpreting her move lists from the PDF, and a list of things you can try if you need to get out of dodge.

Surprise, surprise. People don't actually know what they want.

But, from what I can gather. People are kind of sick of the cake-to-the-face/Miguel-with-purple-fairy-wings/magic-wand-cat-head type shenanigans that can often occur within the game (I, too, am not a fan). That, plus some people complain that there are too many characters to keep track of from a competitive standpoint. That, plus newer players don't really enjoy bound+lengthy juggle+tag assault+rage+wall splat. And then some people just complain that it's starting to feel really samey from T5 up to this point.

I dunno. I think Namco is going to have to do something drastic to bring back the hype.

Tekken feels repetitive and hardly original anymore. The same boring Kazama-Mishimas considered as the "best characters" that no other character canonically won the tournaments, repetitive customization choices (because every character has the same options as the other). There's really nothing new.

I still play it but that's because my characters (Anna, Lili and Miguel) are the only reason I got to continue playing.

Now, I will say that Tag Assault is my favorite new mechanic in Tag 2 now that I can pull it off. But other than that, yes, I can't memorize the various moves of a 50+ character roster. Not to mention, you have to memorize match ups of the 1,000+ combinations that can be thought of. It goes to show that a large roster isn't always the best way to go. VF might have a small cast, but each character feels unique. Same with DOA and it's cast of 30 characters. And while SC5 pissed off a lot of people with its cast, I was happy with it, minus the 3 mimics. If it was up to me, Namco would pull another Tekken 4 (my favorite) and have a cast reduction, a darker/more realistic atmosphere, and some new mechanic to make the game feel fresh. Remove the damn bounds too!

But anyway, back on topic with DOA5UA...

I can't play anyone from T4. Anna was missing while Lili and Miguel weren't introduced yet. I had to suck it up and force myself to unwillingly main as Julia. It was such a dark time for me. What makes it different from the other Tekken games is that they used a normal boss (Heihachi) instead of some monster or demon.
