Does Team Ninja not have any common sense?

What would be even more stupid, imo, would be forcing people who don't care about those costumes to continually download updates that take up space on their hard drives.

Definitely shouldn't be mandatory, but I agree that we need optional compatibility packs.

Indeed. If I buy a dlc wedding dress for Hitomi, and a Groom's get up for Eliot, I want people to be able to see that shit so they can know, Eliot is getting that ass tonight.

But yeah, my 2 cents here. It's either this, or on-disc DLC everyone has to buy to unlock while a few hackers can get away with flaunting it all over online for free. After the whole SFxT thing, I vote for the optional compatibility pack route.

I was thinking that the downloads were big, normally when you buy dlc that's actually dlc the dlc itself would come from an update and the things you buy are 6kb keys for them.

Or they could just go the SFIV route and make them available as a catalog download, so you can see other people using them, you just can't use them yourself. That way the people who want to see them can, and if you don't want to you don't have to. They're already releasing the costumes in 4 packs at a time, I don't see how one more would be that difficult. Also:

A compatibility pack wouldn't be that horribly hard to do. That's what all the other games did.

Having compatibility pack may actually help TN to make more money off DLC (in the US market at least) if the other player gets to see the costume in action. Still images don't really tell much about the costume, and that might turn some people off.

However, the fact of having the costume data available means that the user can simply extract the costume data and swap it onto existing costume slot. TN is basically trying to prevent that from happening I guess. I don't really want to go into details but this is what I've seen with other games.

As for showing off, I bet most Japanese gamers are more into ryona anyway so they don't care about online play lol, or they're so competitive in such way that they don't care about costume at all. I am mentioning "Japanese" because Japanese customers are less reluctant to buy DLCs due to higher economic standard: everything there are priced so much higher that 500 yen doesn't mean much to them.

You would not have to download updates for other players to see the skins. Get this straight, team ninja did not make 12 - 16 new costumes in a one month time period. They had the skins already made and withheld them on purpose to sell as dlc.

I really dont understand the logic. You would assume that players would see the skin in game and then decide to buy it. Somebody above said it right. TM is basically selling fap material and they dont want players downloading replays to see the skins. This is why they only release skins for the same female characters over and over.

On the bright side, Milla's bunny outfit was totally worth it, though I wish it was the bunny devils one, black fits her so much better. Also Hayate's shirtlessness was worth it also. It makes his regular outfit look cooler all together. I only wish they'd add in his second costume from doa4. It was my favorite.
