Bottom Row

Alpha 152, Kasumi Alpha(Kasumi DOA2 moveset), Helena's Mom(with her DOA2U moveset), Lauren(with Nicole's moveset), Nikki(with Zacks old moveset), Tengu, Leon, Ein, Momji, Shiden, Raidou, and Rachel.

Although that bottom row is suspcously empty.

Personally, Shiden and Kasumi Alpha seemed like joke characters to me in DOA:D since they literally were just Hayate and Kasumi without all the great buffs they received through the years. Kasumi Alpha bugs me considerably more since she literally was just the same exact model as Kasumi. If Shiden were to be added to the game, i'd have him as some model/voice swap for Hayate through a button combo or something.

I personally don't understand Momiji or Rachel as requested DOA characters.

Also, helena's deceased mom and leon's deceased girlfriend? Kinda messed up.

Nikki = why the heck not.

and don't forget....

VICTOR DONOVAN.

Of the list, I'd assume the most realistic characters would be Ein, Leon, Tengu, Raidou and Genra. These characters are pretty crucial. Genra would have to undergo some serious changes to make him less of a projectile monster, but is still admirable that TN thought of him enough to stick him in DOAD and tease that his existence matters.

Shiden and "Ryo Hazuki" could easily just be some kind of special model swap for selecting Hayate and Akira, without changing the way the character plays.

Victor Donovan needs to make an appearance already. He's only been teased at since forever.
Unfortunately, that would be 5-7 new MALE characters, so it would kinda be like Team Ninja shooting themself in the foot for trying to make the roster 12 male and 12 female for DOA5. but if you ask me, I wouldn't mind if they shot themselves in the foot, if only to recognize they made a mistake in leaving out characters in the first place.
13 female characters, 11 male characters. Obviously needs 2 males to balance this roster. Leon. Ein.

I wonder if it's worth it to start a new thread specifically crafted by one of the more well known members citing all the specific issues, ranging from gameplay mechanics, characters, costumes, stages - and design some kind of Constitution of Expections that represent, in the very least, the english speaking DOA community.

could send it off to team ninja or something.
better than getting frustrated for no good reason and doing nothing about it.

Layout looks fine. It's not a big deal anyway.

Of course not. But blank spots on a character select screen in this day and age (and I'm trying to think of other uneven select screens from past fighters and can't think of any, it seems to me that they're usually pretty even...) are quite conspicuous.

The extra space on the bottom row is there because Hayashi said they're leaving the game open to supporting dlc characters. It doesn't mean they have any plans for dlc characters, it just means that they don't want to program themselves into a corner in case they change their minds further down the road. I mean a lot further because Koei plans out dlc in huge stretches.

DOA4 was uneven. It had eight characters on the first two rows, then six characters and the random slot on the third. Unless you mean more recent games, like ones that had DLC characters.

....why is there a discussion about the final charcter (not character) select screen. I should have ended at, like...page 3 tops. Even if TN will do dlc characters later, it will be months from now. And they most likely already have a final list of candidates or have already started and know exactly where they'll be placed. I just don't......[sigh]

Because things got really out of hand. Just like in the Mila thread.

No DLC characters was already confirmed in an interview. It's possible to go back on that, but "No" is generally hard to misinterpret or forget.

That was the same article that said they don't believe in paid DLC characters because it's unfair, right? I'm figuring that gave people hope that there would be either free DLC later on, or an updated version of the game. Or they could simply change their mind, but that's even less likely.

Pessimistic = Realistic? The demand for these characters is already known.

And jokes are enjoyable but the same ones tend to get old.
Same ones? I thought my joke was pretty original, what with the 4 obviously haphazardly placed and disproportionately sized character select portraits. May as well have been an official TN roster. The topic I was addressing was that the roster looks goofy by TN's own hand, so I simply filled in the empty space to make it all fit. I was hoping someone would have caught onto that. Or maybe it was just too specific and i'm insane, who knows.

Anyway, again you go with the pessimism. Even if there are people on twitter asking for Ein (actually there aren't, so really - make your voice heard. I hit @teamninjastudio every day with Leon/Ein/Tengu/Raidou/Genra requests, and only today saw multiple tweets of people wondering where the hell Leon was), it shouldn't influence your own voting power. Being realistic is one thing, but being pessimistic and realistic is another. The reality of the fact, as another poster stated - plans for DLC or patches or whatever-the-dick for DOA5 have already been drawn out, likely months ago when the game actually went Gold.

I find it more than troublesome that no one actually understands the scope of what exactly Team Ninja did by not revealing Leon and Ein (i'm still waiting lol). People in forums typing away shit like "oh they were cut cause they were clones or they were bad or who cares" are obviously just meatheads towards the subject, because it implies that TN would have been entirely incapable of making those characters unique, when they've been doing it for years.

This specific case of simply dropping characters has never happened in a fighting game outside of Taka-Arashi, who was introduced in Virtua Fighter 3, forgotten for VF4 and vanilla VF5, only to return in (shocker) an updated version of VF5. Even then though, Taka-Arashi is different from Ein and Leon. It would be more like, Christie in DOA3 having disappeared from DOA4 and DOA:D, only to show up in DOA5. Team Ninja isn't Capcom. There aren't 80+ DOA fighters like there are Street Fighters, waiting to be mixed and matched. Of course Team Ninja actually understands that people enjoy characters like Ein and Leon, and of course they're preparing them for some kind of formal release.
There is no "realistic" or "pessimistic" way about this specific situation, it's unheard of it and frankly frustratingly invigorating more than it is disabling.

There are a hundred and one possibilities for everything, so it's probably best to take a hundred and two answers into consideration. Mope about the 101 problems, or see the 102nd problem that they need to stop pissing people off, because we obviously can't tell if it's intentional or not.

tl;dr: Even if it's a secret, it doesn't hurt to just ask. If Ein and Leon turn out to be on the disc, or pre-planned, it doesn't hurt to have requested their return. That's an "IF" though. Another if could be, what if they really, mind-numbingly thought Ein and Leon were dumb? I'm sure asking them to return a character at that point would convince them otherwise.

can't lose.

I'm pretty sure that Zeo was referring to Blazeincarnated mentioning that your roster should have included Rachel and Momiji. For quite a while now Blaze has been stubbornly maintaining that those two characters (along with Ein and Leon) are in fact in the game, with no evidence whatsoever to support it.

Well don't shovel me in with a guy who thinks ninja gaiden characters have any value in the world of DOA. I'm not saying that. I'm just wondering where the hell the actual DOA characters are.

I, for one, thought BlazeIncarnated was joking around when it came to that. I was never dirty about it either, i just wanted to join in on the fun.

I'm literally aching over why classic DOA characters haven't been shown off for DOA5. To be honest, his posts about momiji and rachel and himself as a character have been the only things keeping my mind off the fact that I care way too much about this game.

Well like I said, his "Aaaaaand here we go again" post was directed at Blaze's Rachel and Momiji thing, not your wacky roster pic.
