Garland looks really good. Didn't really change him up too much beyond a few attacks. Thunder spell is HUGE btw. Couple new attacks and he can cover himself in something as well, probably an EX.

I guess when they said new they meant new for the current game. Means next "new" character is going to be the Emperor, then CoD, etc. I take the word "new" to be literal.

Considering there's a plan to have something like 50-60 characters in this game possibly before a PS4 port it is going to be a very long wait for the game at the pace they are including new characters. And I'm still waiting for Serah.

Gigglesnorted at the main menu, the trend of minimalistic UI in games is going too far. I wonder how many inches .....tall Titan is. It's so hard to keep my perverted comments to myself ):

& one last thing, I know how you hate when we complain about this, but 17mb in one post in a thread is a bit much. Had to go on my laptop to respond to this because my phone nearly spontaneously combusted in my hand

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is nothing there... ;)

FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE DUSCAE_20150401054210.jpg

(This pic has only 200kb so I uploaded it here on the page. I hope that is alright...)

I really don't want to cause you troubles. :( *sigh* I didn't even know the three gifs are that big. I only posted them because I couldn't hotlink the Gameinformer video. I wanted at least something visual in that post. :/

So long as the UI makes little chime notices everytime I move then it will be okay. It is incredibly dull though especially after seeing FFX's.

Titan looks amazing atleast though. And I have no idea about how many kbs pictures/gifts are so I can't really comment on that. Good gifs though A+.

Gameinformer speaks about their impressions of playing the first chapter of Final Fantasy XV:

Some interesting bits in there. :) For everyone who doesn't want to watch all of it here some important points:

- The game is set in an open world environment but the developers still don't want to use the term open world since the game's focus lies on the story and a predetermined path. You can explore off-road at any time though and find lots of stuff to see and do if you want to.
- Fighting mechanics were significantly improved and extended since Episode Duscae.
- Fighting looks as flashy as Devil May Cry and Bayonetta but it is a lot easier and less technical.
- Fans of especially Final Fanatsy 5 and 6 will reencounter many fan favorite monsters.
- Graphics look still a little rough but the game footage they played and released were from a pre-beta build.
- The car can be used off-road but seems to be automatically drawn to the roads. It's a litte like The Witcher 3's horse Roach.
- The game world is really big. It can take several minutes when driving from one point to the next.
- During driving there's party banter (so far only in Japanese) and you can listen to a radio program with many well known FF songs.
- The development team is well aware of fucking up with the XIII-triology and they want to make it right with this installment. They see this as a make or break point for Final Fantasy.
- There will be no sequels to this game. They want to expand the world and lore with other projects (mobile game, anime, movie...) though.

Wow thanks for the infos, I would never watch a 2 hours long video xD
Interesting that there are monsters from the only two FFs I didn't play, they'll be all new to me xD

These collide with each other.

The mechanics were not significantly improved or extended at all, if anything they were dumbed down to hell and back. Being less technical is actually a fault not a plus... Everyone in the Devil May Cry community(including me) hated how DmC dumbed down the controls so launch attacks were just simply pressing Circle and dumbed down controls in general.. This is a similar thing where they took out one of the best introductions to the series.
Perfect guarding in Lightning Returns and Episode Duscae were great, it added skill to blocking and made learning the game mechanics fun and it felt good to pull them off in both games.

The recent demo was pretty much press circle while switching to the hammer until the enemy was dead. Even Iron Giant is just a case of hold square and warp strike/hammer circle when there's an opening.

You can't cater to both Action RPG/Hack & Slash players and more casual players at the same time.

Best option would be to have the dumbed down controls as a separate option or for Easy mode(like how DMC series has an easy mode where mashing attack does combos for you) and have a more complicated and technical control scheme for those that want to play the game as an Action RPG/H&S.

The recent demo does not include the full and final fighting mechanics, they made that clear more than enough. The Gameinformer journalists played the final version in the actual game and that was what they were talking about here.

I very highly doubt they completely changed or dumbed down the mechanics JUST for a demo... That would be ridiculously stupid and take away from the game. It's likely that that is exactly how/very similar to how the game will play in the final version which I am not impressed at all.

lets be honest here you only fought one thing in the demo and it was designed that it would be set to easy mode till you went to fight it again.

Even then, you still hold down to dodge and stuff. the mechanics/controls themselves are what I dislike.

Some stuff they did great, like instant weapons switching and using magic doesn't feel too clunky. I just dislike how they dumbed down how the game works and there's no reason for them to ever bring the old system back since evading doesn't take MP anymore and you don't need perfect guarding to counter like you did in Episode Duscae which was the entire reason for it to be there in the first place..

In Duscae you had an in detail tutorial and lots of hours and enemies time to learn the fighting mechanics, in the Platinum Demo you didn't. You suddenly became adult Noctis and the iron giant lunged at you. They had to dumb down the fighting mechanics for that reason. No one would have instantly grasped Duscae's system.

New character portraits and character descriptions were already released yesterday (didn't want to double post or spam). :) The descriptions are in spoilers though they aren't really spoilers but basic info. ;)

Noctis:

Noct.jpg

The main protagonist and future king of Lucis has a lot on his shoulders, and things are only about to get heavier on his road trip. While it may seem like Noctis is less expressive and a bit distant than his buddies, there's a reason for that. The prince is a complex character who has dealt with a lot of emotional turmoil in his life. His mother died when he was young and his father had to cater to the demands of the kingdom. "Noctis always has this sense of aloneness and solitude," says director Hajime Tabata.
However, Noctis isn't harboring a grudge over it, realizing that sacrifices had to be made. "He doesn't have dark or ill feelings for [his father], it's more that he's holding it in and living with the circumstances," Tabata says. Noctis is still trying to figure out who he is, and his fate to eventually become king is only adding to that difficult process. He has trouble articulating his feelings and keeps a lot bottled up, which might be why he's not too smooth with the ladies, especially with confronting how he feels about childhood friend Luna.

Gladiolus:

Gladio.jpg

Gladiolus - often called "Gladio" for short - brings the muscle to the group. "Gladiolus is just as you see him," Tabata jokes. Gladiolus comes from a family that has always been protectors of the Lucis royal family. A warrior at heart, Gladiolus is the only party member with a militaristic background. He's trained heavily to protect the prince at all costs, which serves as his ultimate goal. But you'd be mistaken to assume his friendship with the prince is out of duty.
Although he's the strongest party member physically, he also isn't shy about expressing his opinions on what's necessary for the group. "Without him we don't have someone who can say the right things in the right moment, and just be clear with conviction in what the team needs to do," Tabata says. "He's a real pillar in ensuring that the team doesn't sway every which way." This also comes with a cost; Gladiolus often gets into arguments with Noctis because he's harsh and direct about what needs to be done.

Ignis:

Ignis.jpg

A more serious and nurturing character, Ignis can be seen as the Noctis' right-hand man. Noctis has known him since childhood, and they are incredibly close. Ignis is extremely loyal and will do anything for the prince. Because Noctis lost his mother at an early age, he's filled some of those duties for him, such as learning to cook and making sure he eats his vegetables and chauffeuring him around in the Regalia. "He's always at your side," says character specialist Marie Iwanaga. "We wanted to communicate that through the battles as well, so you might have noticed from [Episode Duscae], Ignis is always kind of near Noctis...and always in this pose where he's kind of covering for him or protecting him."
He also functions as the brains of the group, making sure they stay on task and ensuring they have the best avenue to success. "He's kind of the guiding light. Essentially, he's the commander." Tabata says. He might be the more austere and intelligent character, but he has difficulty at reading people's intentions, especially when something is clearly a joke. He's also a perfectionist who tends to lose his composure when things don't go his way, which we could see causing some drama on this turbulent adventure.

Prompto:

Prompt.jpg

Prompto may not be a combat-hardened warrior, but he's got a knack for cheering people up and keeping things light-hearted. "Prompto's definitely the mood-maker of the bunch," Tabata says. However, there's a reason Prompto is always trying to bring joy to the group. He had a sad and lonely childhood, which is further explored in the Brotherhood anime series. "He looks like he's a jolly type of guy, but in actuality he's trying really hard to be that happy-go-lucky type of guy, especially since he has a sad past," Iwanaga says. "He does seem like a very light-hearted character, but he's actually a very deep thinker," Tabata adds.
The team put a lot of thought into all of animations because of this duality, making him always moving and being more reactive than the other group members on screen. "He's always exaggerating and overreacting to things," Iwanaga says. Prompto is also good with machines, and tuned into technology and the latest trends. Yes, this means he's into video games and anime.

Lunafreya:

Luna.jpg

Luna is bold, determined, and extremely intelligent. She's also an Oracle - someone who can commune with the gods. She and Noctis have a complicated relationship. They're from different kingdoms and are childhood friends, but as you learn in the beginning of the game, they're getting married for "political reasons" - to bring both of their kingdoms together. "There is love from Luna, but Noctis probably doesn't have the confidence to respond to that love," Tabata says.
Luna isn't along for the road trip, and glimpses of her are mostly through cutscenes, but that doesn't mean that you won't feel her presence. "Through Noctis' dialogue, we're trying to elevate Luna and what she means to him and why he grew to like her," Iwanaga says. She also plays an important role for Noctis that goes beyond merely being a love interest. "She is the presence that supports Noctis throughout in order for him to fulfill his destiny," Tabata says.

Now I can't help thinking that some aspects of Prompto's character are similar to Vanille (which is a positive thing to me!!!). I mean, both act cheerfully but actually they've a sad past..... I'm really curious about Prompto's xD
