Low Discussion - What are the best lows in the game? Who has em?

I guess this could be fairly subjective based on playstyle and philosophy, but there is a good chance I'm playing this game wrong.

I fight online with the F2P Core fighters version and am new to DOA. It seems it would be important to distinguish between lows that are only better online than offline -

What makes a low most useful to you? Speed, range, safety, stun, damage?

Are there unholdable lows? Lows that mid crush? Fastest long range low? Lows with the best string follow up?

Are knockdown lows in general a worse option than lows with good damage that leave you slightly negative? Currently I use Ayane, and I don't know all the possible options or advantages I have if theres a knockdown, but the loss of momentum makes me feel 1P is better.

In Tekken, a lot of people felt 21 frame lows and below were near impossible to block on reaction (non read- non-anticipation). Is this the same for DOA 5 U offline in regards to holding lows on reaction?

Ideally, a good low is an evasive low that crushes highs or possibly mids. It has moderate speed and leaves you at + or neutral frames on NH. Bonus points for if it can be done from strings that can also end in a mid for mix-ups (or at several points during a string like Kasumi's). If it leaves your opponent close to you for follow-ups, that is also ideal.

Examples: Helena has good lows. Ryu has shit lows.

Helena, Ayane, Brad Wong... I would say a lot of mixup characters have great low jabs, pokes, and sweeps. Knocking someone down could be used to the same effect as kicking someone away all the time; mind games.

Jacky has a low kick that leaves him at +10 on NH and can be done from a lot of strings.
Probably gets my vote for top tier low.
