Cow did give me some good ideas for combos after the event which I might try next time.
Matt's Make-your-own move is in the game too and it looks BOOM! First time I got that move I did the SPD motion and kept on doing it for the rest of the event. Didn't realize it was actually a hcb throw 'till I checked the movelist afterwards.
Cow went on a sperging rant for about 10 minutes until the event organizer just raised his own voice and it was hilarious. Can't blame Cow; we're both stick players and they only had 360 pad set-ups for earlier games (sticks were for finals only).
and yeah, I do agree with Cow that the game needs a crazy person.
Honestly, can you blame me?
what kind of tournament organizer tells you, "BUT THERES NO MONEY OR PRIZES INVOLVED WHY DO YOU CARE?" it was never about the fucking money! its just about the damn satisfaction of winning!
Then it kinda really ticked me off when they reduced the tournament from a best out of 3 to a single fucking match.
As much as I prefer double elim, I was ok with the single elim concept since this has been the standard format in the UK for the longest time... only in the last year or so have they started introducing the concept of double elim.
the worst one was... "IF YOU GET TO THE FINALS WE'LL LET YOU PLAY ON STICK" seriously ? just like that off the bat ?
I was forced to play ayane for the most part because she doesn't require much technicalities in her inputs as opposed to Leifang....
(for fucks sake every time I tried to do 46 or 64 P on pad i got her fucking 236 or her 214 motions, and all my advanced hold attempts we're basicly fucked.. which reminds me, because of that same issue I couldnt do advanced holds which is my normal reaction to MID attacks since DOA2 arcade.. and you guys know how integral mid holds are. so I had this hesitation with mid holds because it wouldn't get through to my thick skull that I could only use 1 direction ) I was playing so shit but somehow I managed to pull through.
Also I don't use button binding on pad because I'm just not accustomed to the concept. my controls are A=H , X=P, B=K ... and I just try to use my thumb for the different combinations of those 3 buttons.
The worst part is when the guy was like, "doesn't it give you an unfair advantage when you end up playing on stick against a pad player ? " .. and I was like really ? when a guy is playing pad all his fucking life and mastered its functionality you expect me to be on par with his level by never touching a pad? Its like asking a Chinese person to read Japanese, he can get the idea of whats being said from most the of the Kanji but he just wont be able to say it and he will surely miss out on alot of unreadable stuff. For some fucked up reason they thought that using stick is cheating ..
Of course I would rage.
This is why I just stopped giving a shit later because I knew I will have the build for 3 days nonstop at i46.so i spent most my time with Hayashi at the bar.
Kitchener, you should really come to i46. I could use a helping hand in commentary from someone that knows how to speak DOA lingo.
You could also try out all your combos in a more layed back manner and ON FUCKING STICK.
I'm heading to Telford in a few hours to set everything up. should be a blast.
