Midnight Release

I know at GS they should be giving out the game if there a midnight release for any game, right? So they may not have a midnight release or doa, but I believe if they do for other games(Like WOW for example) you should be able to pick up your copy. I know that's how some places do it.

I got a phone call today from GameStop saying that I could pick up my copy at midnight, but unless there is any sort of actual event for DOA5, I won't be going. I still have school the next day so I don't think it would be good use of my time.

Yup unlike bestbuy gamestop will almost never turn down a sale.

Yup not preordering another game at best buy again after going in the store yesterday and being told the midnight release is strictly for the games advertised so i wont be able to pick up DOA5 even though its payed in full. First they gave me hardly anything for my preorder and now they wont even let me pick up my game at the midnight release.

Gamestop wouldve given me 30% more for my trade ins and i couldve had the game tomorrow at midnight. Its know wonder that there gaming department hasnt been doing so well the last few years due to gamestop. Love best buys electronics but the way they handle preorders is terrible.

Ive never gotten an email notices about any of my preorders in the past and this was the first time they actually let me pay my preorder in full. In the past they would only let me put down 5 dollars and the guy at the register told me thats because most of us dont know how to go around that.

After he stated that i was thinking to myself what kind of shit is that. Anyway as i stated im done preordering games from best buy. Shouldve went with the store i use to work for a long time ago.
If not for the special edition, I would not be buying from a store at all, least of all Gamestop. I could go with Gamefly and get it the day after launch as a brand new game for $35, NewEgg for $45 w/ free ship, or Amazon with release date delivery and a preorder bonus. I fucking despise the shit out of Gamestop and I was shafted hardcore every time I traded something in towards DOA. This entire release has reminded me why Gamestop is the shittiest retailer gamers choose to put up with as well as why the kiss-ass managers (not the sane, people-oriented ones that understood how I attracted loyal customers) didn't like me, because I treated people like people and not another number.

Well, that was a more bare-toothed rant than I had initially planned it to be. To sum up, there's almost always a better option than Gamestop and if it contributes to their fall as a company, it should be taken. I empathize with your situation at BB though, sorry to hear that.

Same as Aegis, I wouldn't have pre-ordered at GameStop had it not been the Collector's Edition. Amazon would've been the best option in my case because I wouldn't have had to pay sales tax (until now since California's being a bitch by making Amazon pay taxes for "fair competition").

eBay's been affected as well when ordering from something from CA so now you need to make sure it's not coming from a local source. What a pain... :(

I get what your saying but lots of retailers are like that. I even use to feel the same way do but after trying to give places like bestbuy a chance ive found out there are far worse places than gamestop. For one im always looking for someone to help me and since bestbuy is a fairly big store there usually far from there kiosk just goofin around.

I didnt want to have to rely on gamestop because i didnt like how they were monopolizing the gaming industry (There the starbucks of gaming you can find one on every corner) but after trying to stick to bestbuy ive found out there are far worse places when it comes to games. Dont get me wrong bestbuy will have good deals on there new games that go on sale but when it comes to preorders there terrible.

Also believe it or not they actually give you less for your used games that go towards preorders because there so selective on which games theyll give a better deal for preorders. Once i found out i couldve gotten almost double the credit i got from bestbuy at gamestop that was it for me. When i worked there i could care less about how the managers felt i always spoke my mind when it came to games.

I agree though wasnt the best gig hrs werent that great and neither was the pay. Point is there are even worse places then gamestop and this whole time i didnt think it was possible. Your also from the bay area so im guessing we both worked for gamestops that werent to far from each other.

I'm going to the midnight release at the GameStop I work tomorrow; from what I've read on our boards in the back, our pre-orders for WOW and FIFA13 are really high. There's a few pre-orders for 5 (including mine), so yeah, looking forward to tomorrow night. :)

good stuff...
I usually sell my stuff through craigslist and cheap ass gamer and I'm really up on my games thanks to gamefly and being a regular blog/forum reader so I'm rarely ever looking for any kind of informative interaction with any game department. In that aspect, I can understand GS winning out just because they have dedicated staff for it. As a first job and a gaming fanatic, it was absolutely wonderful working with customers, broadening their horizons, finding them gifts for friends, boy/girlfriends, and especially their kids. I had a very large number of loyal customers there. I did have one manager though that had only been a week in at the store and she decided I was not good for the store very early on.

I guess she was trying to up her sales to look good but she was selling Tony Hawk's RIDE to a mother who expressed she was looking for the perfect Xmas gift for her young son but didn't have a lot of money at her disposal. She told the mom it was the best game out right now and that it was going to sell out before the holiday season and that now was the time to get it. I may not have done it tactfully but I cut in asking where she had heard that it was a great game and she didn't have an answer. I then went on to say that it's been panned across the board, even GI gave it a sub-6 score while everyone else said it was broken and an exercise in futility, saving that poor mother some hard-earned money. Add in the fact that I was not pestering the same people several times for GI subs and pre-orders so after that, I was kept off the schedule for 3 months straight and eventually just stopped calling/showing up.

I worked for 3 years at the Mountain View Gamestop on Showers Drive and then 6 months at the Scotts Valley location in the Santa Cruz mountains. Scotts Valley was not the best experience in terms of managers...

Sorry to hear about your bad employee experience Aegis. I read online that GameStop actually has one of the worst benefits for its employees. I was thinking about having a part-time job during the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, but after reading that article, your post, and just going into an empty GameStop to preorder DOA5, GameStop might be towards the bottom of my list of potential employers.

I worked at the gamestop in colma 280 metro center and wasnt there long before i realized i love gaming but this isnt the best place for employees. Ive noticed most managers like working at gamestop but employees pretty much get treated like shit for the most part.

I would never recommend some a game that i felt or knew was garbage so guess what i never did. Its a shame that some lots of people are working in the wrong positions like your manager. Id rather sell someone a game for less or not even sell a game then have someone comback saying that game was trash. Ive sold some stuff at craigslist before and thats how i actually sold my copy of TTT2 for 50 bucks.

I do like cheapassgamer.com and never go onto the site enough to check the great deals.

There are worse jobs than gamestop like target for example.

As a summer gig, I'd say you'd have some fun working there. I'd even work there for the summer if not even to reap the benefits of all the suits they get caught up in for the duration of employment (I've made almost $1k off those suits for only ever being a part-timer). If you can work somewhere else though, go for it. I'd recommend staying as far as possible from Target, Fry's, and Malibu Grand Prix. If you're personable and can express confidence, go for a waiting gig.
More good stuff...
Hear, hear, those customer relations are much more important than Gamestop realizes.

Hope to see you online come Tuesday

A lot of high school students I know work at Target and don't have much of a problem with it.
Thats crazy talk and theyve been brain washed. Ask them about the things they hate about working at target and after working other jobs at target you then realize how terrible that place is. They micro manage you at target and what that means is there constantly asking you what your working on and how long its going to take you to finish.

Ask you friends about raises at targe which range from 11 cents to 50 cents. Thats right i knew a good target worker who had been there a year i mean she did her job well and she got an 11 cent raise. When i heard that i was like i have to get the fuck out of here. So i asked other co workers and friends who also told me the same thing. The problem with target like all other bad situations is you get to use to what your doing so you stay.

Right after the christmas season youll be lucky to be working 3 days a week and the only good thing about it was seeing friends at work. Talk about the worst place ive seen employees treated and the target i worked at (san bruno) some of the managers were known for yelling at there employees. That shit wouldve never happened to me though because i wouldve just walked the fuck out.

Anyways id ask your friends about how they feel about target and ask about some of the specifics i mentioned. I will admit though i worked at a shitty target. Sorry everyone that im going on about past jobs ive worked at and lets get back to talking about the midnight release which SOME us are going too lol.

Hes right it wouldnt be a bad summer gig but stay far away from the places he mentioned. Youll probably see me online eventually but i know im going to be busy unlocking shit. I cant really enjoy a game until at least all the characters are unlocked at my disposal but yea add me we shouldnt have to much lag since were both in the bay (at least i hope).

I might wait on unlocking alpha though since i dont want to spend to much time away from playing actual people. I also see your a Casshern fan and that was my favorite character in Tatsunoko vs capcom along with karas.

Think about it this way youll be well rested and itll be a reward for passing the test.
Yea. And I don't think I will be touching DOA5 much until after Oct. 6th because of SAT (ugh). I'll just try to run through Story Mode and get all the characters (minus Alpha) and just unlock some of the costumes. But I might play some online during the weekends or when I'm not swamped with homework just to see how my [crappy] internet holds up. I've gotten so many complaints from people in DOA4 saying that my internet is crap and that they can't play against me because of it.
