Took 3 years in highschool
Ah thats cool. Was it optional to learn german or did they kinda force you to do it? In Germany you have to learn english from 5th grade till you graduate and you can choose between french, spanish and latin at 7th.

Each school is different, I had to learn 2 years of Spanish in 6th grade. Then 1 year of Latin in 9th grade, with the option of continuing Latin or studying Spanish in 10th and 11th grade. :-/ I did want to learn German though since I was born there.

I understand were youre coming from but i seriously dont recommend learning German as long as you dont need it. I mean the language itself is cool (just my opinion) but if you didnt grow up learning German its kinda hard to get into it cos the are mostly no actual rules or patterns for pretty much anything. All you can do is learn stuff by heart which sucks in my opinion. I maybe mistaken but considering how many Germans arent even able to speak it correctly it seems pretty hard for people that didnt grow up with it. But its true that it would have been nice if you at least had the option to learn it though. Btw nice to meet you.

Yeah, our school only offered French and Spanish; no alternatives. It started in 7th grade, mandatory to take up until the end of 9th. Everything proceeding that was voluntary. Next, when I moved to a different state, that school offered, I believe, 15 different languages.

*sigh* how I wish we moved sooner...

Sounds like you're talking about English. lol
Learning English is a piece of cake compared to German. Its true that English has irregular stuff aswell but German is just crazy. For example in English you say ''the table'' in German you say ''der Tisch''. The problem is that a table/Tisch is an object but ''der'' is male. On the other hand ''the girl'' means in German ''das Mädchen'' even though ''das'' is for objects and the girl/Mädchen obviously isnt an object...i guess lol. Stuff like that is just all over the place in German. It doesnt make sense at all.

I think English is fairly complex. You're looking at one aspect of a language when, to truly determine which is likely to be more difficult, you'd have to think about everything.

Just for a small example, pronunciation is key when speaking English. Words that are spelled exactly the same often times are pronounced differently with completely different meanings.

I'll steal this list that I found and copy/paste it.

"
The bandage was wound around the wound.
2) The farm was used to produce produce.
3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was
time to present the present.
8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10) I did not object to the object.
11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13) They were too close to the door to close it.
14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.
19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?"
I'm not saying English is the most complex, but it's certainly not a cake-walk xD

Ok calling it a piece of cake went maybe a bit too far. Anyways i guess every language has its ups and downs and every language is hard to learn as long as youre not willing to give it your best or even are forced to learn it.

When I got to 9th grade I had the option of Spanish, German, or French. I didn't have any use for any of the three, but My family heritage is nearly 100% German, so I chose German. We only had to take 2 years, but I liked the language so I took a 3rd. I've retained most of it fairly well since a lot of the words are fairly similar to English. In fact sometimes when I'm speaking Japanese my brain gets confused now and just thinks *foreign word* rather than Japanese. I'll be like "Anata wa machen... fuck," and the Japanese person is like uhhhhh. When it comes to German, if I don't know if its der, die, or das, I just say fuck it and choose das. Also, women are objects, thats why its das ;)

My 3 year old daughter watches my little pony and she loves Rainbow dash and Twilight Sparkle
I watched it with my little cousin once. Dunno what the episode was about but suddenly rainbow dash popped up and he was just like ''Wow, she looks like a boss'' with no facial expression at all. I turned to him and was just like ''What did you just say!?'' and couldnt stop laughing for like 10 minutes. I mean she really DOES look like a boss but hearing him say it was just kinda weird.

Hi folks! Some of you may remember me from DOA Central - I was probably the same name on there too. For the past 4 something years I've been playing nonstop Guitar Hero/Rock Band, but I've been thinking of getting back into DOA when DOA5 comes out. :)
