Figuring out how to use Tengu is like solving a complex puzzle with missing pieces. I actually kind of enjoyed that in DOA4. However, I didn't enjoy staring at my w/l ratio.

Even if Nyotengu was twice as shit as Bankotsubo was in DOA4 80% of PSN would still be completely free.

It's true that he had that unfamiliarity factor going for him. There was absolutely no reason that he ever should have won, but it was, in fact, entirely possible.

Despite the fact that I almost exclusively played Bankotsubo in DOA4, my W/L ratio was way, way better in that game than it is in DOA5/DOA5U.

Although one thing I can almost guarantee is that now that she isn't divebomb dependant.

You say that like it was a bad thing. It's not mentioned much, but despite Tengu's unfathomably high difficulty level, Damn were those juggles simple. Especially tengu mirrors. easiest highest max damage "combo" ever.

Besides, after all the vids I've watched, i actually haven't seen anything comparable to the divebomb save those flying ground grabs. Far from dependent does it even exist?

This right here is the most succinct quote ever to sum up my doa4 career.

Of course it does:

Yeah, I've actually always been a fan of how easy his max damage juggle was. It just would've been nice to get more damage out of it.

Similarly, I also enjoy Leon's juggles, as they're almost always just T, 4T, 28T, or 82T.

Naturally, Nyotengu will not be using the divebomb in her juggles though, for two reasons:

1) It's not guaranteed anymore, so everyone will just tech it and punish her.

2) She can actually juggle, and her juggles net her way more damage than the 30 points from the divebomb. Hell, the air throw she ends her juggles with does more damage than the divebomb just by itself.

Nevertheless, I was still glad to see that the attack made it back, simply because it's a neat animation. At the very least, I can still enjoy divebombing on my KO'd opponent, just to see it. Of course, you can still punish wakeup kicks too.

@werewolfgold, could you translate? Please!
Sorry. Must've missed this notification.

I assume that people can put together the combos themselves.
  • At 1:13, it says that you can use P+K to beat out mid wake-up kicks.
  • At 1:25, it says that if your opponent blocks your 6K, follow up with P+K to keep the pressure on. If 6K connects, you can follow with 6PPP.
  • At 1:41, it talks about triggering the danger zone in The Show. It says that if you hit the star shape on either sides, the stage lights up and the spotlight appears on the characters. You can trigger the danger zone after this in one combo.
  • At 1:57, it talks about how Critical Burst, in addition to doing a high damage combo, it can be used to freestep to the side of the opponent. For Nyotengu, getting in 8K and following up with a combo should be pretty easy.
  • At 2:11, it says that against an opponent that doesn't ukemi, you can go for 9P --> 2H+P. You don't have a big window to nail it, so you need to be on your game.
  • I'm not 100% sure what the last one is saying. It seems to be talking about sidestep follow ups or something. But, there are too many words that I don't know.
The final part is just bloopers.

I'm looking at the 1.08 changes (late I know) and trying to find out if they seriously nerfed her already. Hiten K is now high instead of mid, and Hiten H+K has a different stun.

So can anyone clarify how badly the K nerf hurts her? Like, is there any reason for the opponent to NOT hold low now? And is the new H+K stun better or worse? Thanks

Edit: Just checked her official PDF and she does has some gimmicky low throw out of Hiten. 17 active frames sounds awesome but at i40 it's an even bigger guessing game than Alpha's burst throw

They can't just hold low, since Hiten H+K starts with a mid now.

I can't figure out why they made Hiten K a high since it's just 7K, which has always been a mid. I could understand it if they wanted to do that to provide some kind of mix up between her two kicks from Hiten, so the foe can't avoid both of them with one hold option, but the mix up was already there, since Hiten K was mid and Hiten H+K started with a high.

Now they just reversed it so that Hiten K is high and Hiten H+K starts with a mid. Not sure what the point was.

The low throw with 17 active frames should be 9P2T. Or can she do that from Hiten now too? I don't remember. That throw always had 17 active frames though.

By the way, did they update her frame data PDF with the 1.08 changes? If so, could you link that here?

I'd like to experiment with hiten h+k once I get to use the character. It seems to have a lot of potential. Might even be able to beat wakeup kicks.

If you have a multihit move like that which tracks and is a mid and also GBs, then it's worth looking into.

I just hope they haven't made it non-natural if that makes sense. I'm pretty sure it was a natural combo in 1.07.

Oh I didn't know Hiten K was just 7K variant... I thought maybe it was something with combo potential. Looking at her official combo video you can just do Hiten 2K (mid) into 7KP so I guess it's not a huge loss, especially if Hiten H+K starts mid now. Are you positive about that because that change is not reflected in the movelist PDF or 1.08 changelog..

Also regarding her Hiten 2T yes it's the same as 9P2T

And while I'm here are there any good matches uploaded with her? Skimming through the kouhatsu videos I keep seeing only one guy use her and he's not that good (can't make out his name but it's two kanji, second one being 生)

I remember someone translating the changelog and stating that Hiten H+K changed from high-mid-mid to mid-mid-mid.

The only PDF I know of contains her 1.07 data, so that one isn't going to show any of the changes.

Good ones, no, but there are tons of matches of her up on YouTube and in the media section here. If you search the media section for "DOA5UA" you should find some.

Thanks I ran a search and found some more... but it's the same damn guy in both kouhatsu and a-cho lol I wonder if that's a comment on Nyotengu's lack of popularity or Arcade as a whole.

RE: translation, was it from google? In the 1.08 changelog it only says the stun was changed for Hiten H+K but no specifics. Didn't it knock back before? Maybe it just stuns now, or maybe it's not 3 in 1 anymore IDK but there's no mention of hit levels changing aside from Hiten K. The rest are glitch fixes

Edit: Found a couple more Nyotengu players here although like the other guy it seems they're totally new to tengu style

It's pretty cool how the Hiten cancel from 9P moves you back. 7P/9P shenanigans will be more fun than ever

No, someone translated it, but perhaps it was wrong. I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait until she's out and see for ourselves.

Yeah, I don't watch any of those videos expecting to see good Nyotengu play. The only reason I ever watched them was to see how TN changed her attacks. Like see what such-and-such does on CH now, or what so-and-so does on NH, et cetera.

Speaking of which, breaking news, everyone! 8K launches on NH again. Check out 51:48 in the video in synce's above quote. It seems my suspicions about why that move was more unsafe were accurate.
