Opinion: Top Players! (And those who feel like I do...)

The original post is essentially right... we need to share info, not sandbag.

More people with more knowledge means better players

Better players means better representation of the game.

Not all of us have had time to put together videos or text guides, but check the character sections, there is good information there. But players who are in a position to share knowledge and do not, need to realise that it's better to educate the community. Does it make your opponents better? Yes. This is a good thing. Then we will all play at a higher standard.

There is this paradox that some top players complain about how hard to grasp the game is, but at the same time they are not willing to help new players. Any wonder the game is not kicking off as it should?

Was that last line really necessary?

Main problem is that the top players aren't sandbagging. You can figure out their playstyle by watching them play in tournaments, or just look up tournament videos online and see how they play the game and adapt to their opponent.

Learning to read your opponent (or yomi) is something you can't really teach someone. It's something you pick up as you gain more experience. Hell, my yomi is limited to what mix-ups someone tries to pull on me, and it's not on the level where I can hold on reaction or something. After all, it's part of the learning process.

If someone just spells it out for you, what's the point of doing it yourself?

It's not the top players' job to give support to new players. It's nice if they do, but if you don't ask, they won't tell. And with the mindset that they're playing the game competitively, of course they would want to keep certain tricks of the trade to themselves. It's natural, and there's nothing wrong with it, and it's certainly not why DOA5 'suffers'.

Ok. I'm seriously tired of being quiet. Do I agree with the OP? More or less. Plenty of "top" players that are fkin useless. I have been around since doau and many of them have gotten worse. Not all but a lot. They complain players don't travel, but if we're not manny, mamba, pl...etc not only are some of us disrestpected, but wrongly labeled.

Nykko for example labeled a "online player"which I have never played him online only offline. The dude rarely ever play this game online. I only ever played him offline. I'm not a online player. I play offline every chance I get rather its a local or major tourney or casuals. We are the ones trying to build the damn cali scene offline. But we are apparently online players. There are players who help other players by spending their money who are disrespected. Do this community lack motivation/support from the top players? Yes indeed. Not all but too many.

The same people who also moans about the game like bitches all the time like their word should be law may I add.

In conclusion I hope the immature supposed HLP don't run people away from getting into doa. There are many great players who are willing to help, support and motivate you. I'm willing to help Lisa players as well as players with other characters that I may know. If you live in cali you main already have a scene near you. GGs.
I agree with this. There are people out there that hate online just as much as top players. I'm trying to get a scene here too &hate online with a passion I'm also willing to help if people are willing to listen to me & do what it takes. I help with Kasumi, Ayane, & I'm starting to understand Kokoro more and more.

But I also expect people to try to learn a few things own their own as well. I'm tolerant as long as people try but if you're 1 of those people who sandbag, looking for answers to just "unfold" or "hand you things on a silver platter", or complain about something refusing to listen, then I don't waste my time. Because I too am learning more things about the game.

I've no problem showing beginners the ropes with Kasumi or sharing Hayate tips and tech with someone but I don't want to feel like I'm wasting my time. Once a player learns the basics of a character it is on them to discover how they will utilize what they have learned. Looking at match videos to get an idea of how to play is great but if you mimic someone's style then it defeats the purpose of learning a character because all you will be doing is throwing out moves without understanding why you use them or when you have to use them. The wiki would be a great tool to help people with this but If you look at the wiki section for most characters it is a joke. The wiki should be a tool that contains the most up to date information because this game has been patched many times so going into certain topics looking at posts from start to finish may provide unnecessary outdated information.

Also players shouldn't just sit around and wait for new tech to be discovered. They should be playing an active role in discovering new tech. Relying solely on the top players causes a characters development to become stagnant especially since most of them won't give any information unless it is asked for. With more heads working on tech a character becomes stronger and deadlier at a faster rate. Who knows you may find something which gives someone else an idea for even better tech.

As for keeping tech a secret I disagree with that. What validity is there in competition if you steamroll everybody? What is that win supposed to prove? I don't know about you guys but I like to play against players that are the same level as me or higher. Obviously the more educated the opponent is about my character the harder it is for me to win thus making a victory that much more satisfying. Also, if people start figuring out how to deal with tech, isn't that the time you look and say "It's about time for me to come up with something better?" Competition encourages growth and if you want to hide tech to increase your chances of winning then I'm sorry but you are a coward. I understand why it's done and it makes sense to me but it doesn't change the cowardice of that action.
