Why would Capcom be in such a dire financial situation? I've never heard about this before... Is there more info about this? And wasn't Street Fighter 4 with all it's iterations a quite lucrative cash cow?

They've been not so great for a while now. A lot of their latest titles have been suffering (because players can't handle reboots or sequels as they were designed) and the company in general really needed the help.

they were suffering because they kept stepping on the toes of fans. DMC reboot when they wanted DMC5, fat mega man when they were dying for the blue bomber, Street Fighter X Tekken's awful gem system, hack n slash castelvania that nobody was asking for, RE6... list goes on and on

handled better all of these series should have been printed money, but they fucked it up over and over.

Just the first one.

Japan's gaming economy is shrinking, due to numerous reasons. Some of those reasons include the population pyramid causes less kids/teens to advertise too and make money from, and having home consoles and PCs is not desirable due to space and energy cost concerns. In short, if it's not mobile it has difficulty selling. Applies to pretty much any form of entertainment over there.

I see... Thanks for the insight. :) So that's why they decided on this new kind of business model for SF, also trying to embrace more casuals and newcomers. Well, lets see how it goes. They got me as a new customer...but so far I'm not really impressed with what there is on offer. But I shall give them the benefit of a doubt until the game actually spins in my PS4. ;)

keep in mind SF apparently always starts off with low content in the arcades and by the time they port it over its been given more characters, characters, levels etc... we arent getting 2.0 this time though so its going to be a bit bare bones for awhile.

Okay, I'll give them the benefit of a doubt until at least the actual story mode is on offer in March and the first DLC character is actually obtainable by just fight money. ;)

I despise charge characters and his design is stupid as fuck, but man I'm tempted to pick up Fang. He looks pretty broken

Thank goodness Vega is no longer a character. He's one of my favorite characters but I could never play as him but now I have a chance.

i saw a write up him the other day and it described his poison as more of psychological warfare than a major threat, so if you bend over backwards trying to avoid it then he's just going to poison you anyway and put you in a shity position. ignore the health trickle and rush him down.

Yeah poisons in fighting games are never actually enough to matter. The heaviest poisons do less than a jab, but over time.

I think Purple Haze Distortion and Kankuro are the only times poisons were an actual threat, but that's more because the former could stack the effects while the latter could space you out and let the poisons time you out.

Ironically I think that it's going to hurt him in the long run. his poison is so difficult to dodge people are just rush through it, where as if they had more of a chance of avoiding it it would be seen as unescasaary damage

But earning 100.000 Fight Money per month will be quite the challenge for most. And that doesn't even include about 70.000 FM for alternate costume colors and costumes. So Capcom made sure that most people will actually have to buy the characters and costumes with real money anyway...and that most of the additional characters are as good as finished but aren't included in the game at release on purpose.

That explains why Capcom gave everyone of month to save up Fight Money (for those who plan on unlocking characters the old-fashioned way)

Hmmm I think I might just want to buy the characters. Now that I think about it, I don't want to ruin my experience by having my fighting being all about the money which is inevitably what it would become.

I wonder if they'll release the characters in the same order as the silhouettes the released earlier. Which would mean Alex, Guile, Balrog, Ibuki, Juri, and then Urien. I'm just excited to finally be able to play as Ibuki. She was too hard for me to use in USF4.

I'll probably just buy the season pass. Each character is supposed to cost $6 and costumes for each of them are $4. Season pass is $30 so it's half off. And I'm assuming that fight money can be used for other things beside characters and costumes. So I'll probably save it for whatever that is.
