Yeah it's probably your best bet. Bolt's pretty good too, and about as cheap. I'm not sure about New Haven, but I used to take the bus to Hartford all the time before I had my car and even a Greyhound wasn't that bad. It's like $50 round trip and $30 one way.

Where's the nearest Amtrak train station?

There are a few pretty close together, but the easiest one to get to would probably be South Station. It's located right in downtown Boston. It's also the bus station, so I could also give you a lift to the venue as well since I live like 5 - 10 minutes away and I'll be picking several people up anyways.
