Slow Escaping Advice

I need tips at how to be faster.

I hold guard and circle the joystick while taping p and k for a hot second. I was in a lobby match with some top players yesterday, and they were slow escaping moves I didn't think were possible. If they're doing that, then I'm doing something wrong. Any ideas?

I never tried circling the stick, I just slide my thumb across dpad for diagonals. Wonder if either is faster

So mashing 7 8 9 8 7 doesn't get the same effect? aka :7::8::9::8::7::8::9:?

No because you're sacrificing time wasted on the same inputs. You're doing

4 8 6 4 6 4 6 4 6 4 6 because you're never letting go of 8. Instead, by doing 7 3 or 1 9 you're doing 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6.

To further clarify. Here's the two methods with 10 motions going from left to right and how many different inputs are registered:

:7::9::7::9::7::9::7::9::7::9:
4 8 6 4 6 4 6 4 6 4 6

:7::3::7::3::7::3::7::3::7::3:
4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6

It's an old Super Street Fighter II Turbo trick.

Thanks man. I'll try applying this tonight.

I think if you hold :h: and alternate :7::3:, the moment you end stun if you are still pressing :3::h: it will make you vulnerable to any low or mid strike for an instant. Using :7::8::9: is safer in this regard.

Remember than if you get hit in crouching with a mid you take 125% damage.

I hold f and spam 4646464646. Reason being, to initially hit a direction 6/4 is faster for me to hit than a 7/8/9

:7::3: works like a champ. Finally able to SE Gen Fu's sit down stuns into CB and Akira's sit downs. Now I just have to be smart on what is SEable and what isn't.

I've already explained the problem with that notation, and considering that the stun has its own height properties plus it requiring you 5 frames to go from standing to crouching state in neutraly (out of stun), I don't feel that's an option.

You're performing the same motion if you do 73 or 19, only you're doubling your inputs to escape faster by doing 73 or 19.

Set the AI to a deep stunning attack like Bayman's P+K and practice stagger escaping it.

Thanks Mister. I was looking for a thread like this in particular, I'll try this tonight.
Does it work on every surface ? (End of the Earth/ice, Sanctuary/ZackIsland/water)

Is it likely to stay? Do the Japanese like it?

This shouldn't be a problem for anyone with decent reaction, imho.

So, if you're SE on stick, would it be better to just mash SPDs, or use the :1::9::1::9::1::9: method?

My personal experience is that its better to do alternating directions than spins.

In theory, let us assume that you're going at the same speed for either method. So, let's take the previous example and say we do the first 10 notations to see how many inputs are registered by the system:

:7::9::7::9::7::9::7::9::7::9:
4 8 6 4 6 4 6 4 6 4 6

:7::3::7::3::7::3::7::3::7::3:
4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6 4 8 2 6

:4::1::2::3::6::9::8::7::4::1:
4 2 6 8 4 2

So spinning the stick is apparently the least efficient method based on time. In fact, it looks like you are 50% less efficient than just doing half circles, and almost 66% less efficient then just alternating opposite angles.

This reminds me of pre-DOA5 release. Bryan was saying that a lot of the fastest stagger escaping requirements are unobtainable to be met anyways. When he saw me stagger escaping at GVN he immediately exclaimed, "How are you stagger escaping so fast!?" to which I basically explained the above.
