Super Smash Bros. Thread

Project M is a large-scale modification of Brawl to bridge the gap between Brawl and Melee's gameplay. It's generally considered its own game now, getting its own tournaments in large fighting game events.
But irrelevantand confusing as it is a fan made mod and we are trying to get news for the new real game, so please clarify which game images are from.

He did clarify that the pic was from Project M.

And Project M is far from irrelevant. It is easily the best incarnation of SSB to date and is very popular in the SSB community and is still growing. In fact, Project M is actually more relevant than Brawl, as it has a way more active tournament scene.

Also, this thread is about SSB in general, not just Smash 4, so Project M discussions are just as relevant as Smash 4 ones.

That's fine and all but id rather talk about the real games not fan mods.

Look I'm gonna be blunt here. I'm not gonna respect fan mods, smash or marvel tournaments. Not because they are inherently bad (I enjoy all three), but out of principle. The former because its not the real game. The latter because I find it ludicrously ridiculous that broken randomash party games are being taken as SERIOUS BUSINESS. Even more for Smash, where for "competitive play, over half the game is removed/banned/disabled, which to me, defeats the entire purpose of playing.

All items all levels all day!

Although....

One of my favorite "modes" was just smart bombs, highest drop rate, on mushroom kingdom scrolling stage lol. Such beautiful explosive chaos!

Smash bros is supposed to be about utter chaos lol. That's why I can't take tournament play seriously. Get outta final destination and play the full game, bitches! *said with good humor*

To be fair literally every multiplayer game has a casual & hardcore audience. There's always going to be a variety of players. Plus the whole point of having options to turn things on/off is to accommodate both audiences. Playing smash 1v1 on a neutral stage to see who is the better player can be just as exciting as a 4man free for all.

The "serious business" comment you made reminds me of when people call skilled players "try hards" for wanting to be good at a game they enjoy.

It's fine if you don't like game mods...I can understand that sure. As for the smash tourneys/competitive players it's not really necessary to dismiss/disrespect them lol

Besides Sakurai was nice enough to make multiple skins of final destination =)

I don't like Final Destination. It's a viable stage, but I feel it favors zoning characters too heavily to be a starter stage. Try playing Ganondorf on Final Destination. That is not fun.

If I remember correctly, it's being changed to a counter-pick stage for Project M 3.5, which I think is a good idea. I believe that's how it should have been all along.

I'm not too fond of the "For Glory" mode in Smash 4's online. They didn't handle it well. It's still better than the other option (I forgot what it's called), but Final Destination was not a good stage choice. They should have opted for Battlefield instead, or have it randomly choose from various viable stages.

I won't be playing online with randoms much, if at all, anyway, but I still think they should have handled it better.

Oh lol in terms of favorite stages i usually play Battlefield/Smash ville(Brawl)//Pokemon Stadium(Melee ver).

How exactly does For Glory work? I recently saw a screenie where there was a For Glory free for all match...

They should of made For Glory have a bundle of neutral stages instead of FD. I still find being able to change the skin of FD a cool feature (too bad battlefield can't get the same treatment though).

Oh btw I think the other mode you're talking about is "For Fun"?

How can people not like FD?!?! it's a solid empty stage fair for both players D; when people say they don't like that stage it really confuses me.

Battlefield and Pokemom Stadium 2 (the fixed version in PM, not the abhorrent Brawl version) are my favorites.

How exactly does For Glory work?

If I remember right, it randomly finds you a single opponent for a 1v1 stock match, with no items, on Final Destination. I don't remember how many stocks you're given though, or what the time limit is.

Yeah, probably.

It isn't fair for both players. It's a big open plain with no platforms, which provides an unfair advantage for projectile-heavy characters.

I don't hate FD, but it is by no means a stage that is "fair for both players" if one player is a CQC character and the other is a zoning character.

Which characters are you guys hyped to use?

I wanna try out C.Falcon/Sheik/Bowser/Rosalina the most
I mostly wanna try out Megaman, Little Mac, Robin, Shulk, and Wii Fit Trainer. Though if I were to make a guess on who I would most likely main....as much as I like Megaman, I feel that I would most likely main Wii Fit Trainer or Little Mac....or I dunno.

Someone played the latest build of Smash 4. Here is his latest impression on the characters and mechanics.
Hm, so apparently Robin is really good, too. I might try him out first, before I look at the others.
