There are obviously exceptions but in general I am not a fan of rap and don't really keep up with pop culture in music.

It shows they're popular enough for everyone to know who they are. You know who Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj are despite not keeping up with music pop culture. Missy and Kim haven't really been that popular in recent years (Lil Kim sort of was because of her feud with Minaj) but during their heydays they were everywhere.

Even though I don't really care for Helena, I hate, how Team Ninja made her a total slut in DOA5U regarding her wardrobe. Even Tina, which I always considered as the biggest slut (regarding clothing) of the series, seems rather tame in comparison...
