Story mode is important to a certain extent in DOA's case as it doesn't have the following Tekken does (which caters mostly to the pro gaming audience). You have girls with 10 bikinis each and every breast setting imaginable? You're obviously going to draw in a larger casual crowd so yes you probably need a decent story as well.

What I'd really like to see in future DOA's is have cutscenes where you can change their outfits and have photo mode enabled during them.
yeah change the outfits would be cool like in old games ,i liked that very much :)

Didn't Tekken lose a lot of players because it made the learning curve too steep with the newest installments? I thought I heard that somewhere

What i really want for DOA5U would be a Tournament Mode ..like in the old Street Fighter .
I liked that so so much and it would fit perfectly to DOA ...the first place would get a piece of a costume or something else ,so you can play through and through a gainst friends and get some for it .

I loved it on super nintendo .
And what i also liked about it was ,when you play alone by yourself you can watch the computer maches and figure out who will win and fight mabye against you :)

ah it would b so cool

This is why Ed Boon has managed to change the game with MK franchise. He knows how to balance the audience needs aka, give the gamer what they really want, and guess what, it pays off. What separates him from the Japanese companies is that the Japanese are still stuck in a mentality where they believe that aesthetics is what sells a game. Getting you to believe that if you see certain characters like for example Kasumi that you'll invest in that character no matter what because why? It's Kasumi. Same thing with Ryu or Chun-li from SF. (I don't fall into this trap thats why a lot of those companies fall to the waist side eventually as far as sells go) They are the faces of those franchises so what do the Japanese companies do? limit their creativity with the character because that's what people are used to liking, just SEEING those characters. But eventually a lot of these type of people are the same ones that hinder the depth of the game. Because all they have left to be focused on, is the fighting mechanics of the game...

TN I think is saying that this person is the first person to suggest Donovan might be playable and I'm saying he's definitely not the first person to say that

Virtua fighters main hurdle is that its really really bland. Can be as technical as it wants, but if its not entertaining, its not a good game....

But I agree that a mortal kombat9/doa5 style full story would help any fighter.

Though I never wanna touch doa5s story again. Still haven't since the one time I played it at launch.

I will admit that with an actual story it would of been tons better...sadly it isn't, and I like story..which made me draw away from VF. However to say it's not a good game goes is a bit laughable. VF was the basis of the mechanic for 3D fighting. If it's not a good game, then Tekken and DOA is not a good game either. And as such...I enjoy DOA quite alot. But if you mean story? Then yes...it needs story, it lacks it hard.

Damn... It is things like this that make me wish I got a hold of an Xbox when I was younger. I missed A LOT of the cool stuff! Plus, Christie is off the chain...! Awesome fighting style... dat volatile cold personality... and a PET PANTHER! Just like Rugal from KOF!
I wanna play DOA3...

That man is truth.

Part of VF's actual story was converted to a Pachinko machine for who knows why:

Donovan doesn't even have a full body character model in DOA5 when he appeared on the screen while talking to Christie but then again, I doubt there is even anything different from how he looks like in Dimensions to his 5/5U appearance.

Why would TN even respond to that though? It's suspicious and makes me think we should keep Donovan under our radar as the possible next character...

No offense, but MK sells just as much on its aesthetics as DOA does. It's camp gore instead of camp boobs, but it's a similar principle.

Now, what you're implying here if I understand you correctly is that Ed Boon "gives us what we really want" (when DOA implicitly does not), and this could mean two things: 1) "Content" and 2) Gameplay (as most other things can be lumped into aesthetics).

1) Both DOA5U and MK9 has plenty of nice, useless extras features. Watch Modes, Test Your Might, Combo Challenges, Stages, Unlockable costumes, Story Modes, yadda yadda. DOA has the added bonus of all the move properties and frame data being in-game however, and it's tutorial mode is much more complete and exhaustive. So for me, DOA has it better.

2) If you like MK9's gameplay better than DOA5U's that's fine I guess, but both do what they set-out to do: evolve their franchise's fighting system while also keeping it true to the style that fans fell in love with to begin with. Now if we're talking a balance thing, oh my lord. I may complain here and there about DOA's balancing, but MK9's is insane! At least DOA doesn't have any 9-1s.

Anyway, I just don't get why some people like to ride Ed Boon's dick so much. Same thing applies to Itagaki. Both headed some great games and they deserve respect for that. But they're not untouchable messiahs. They both fuck up and they actually fuck up quite often.

In my personal opinion, if Ed Boon is no more or less capable of giving they audience what they want (or as you strangely worded it: "needs") than Tecmo/TN with DOA.

I still maintain that no one's personality has changed since, at least, DOA4. Therefore acting like DOA5 ruined all the characters' personalities is silly.

Okay, maybe Leifang got a slight stalker upgrade. But, really other than that...
It definitely did, imo. Some for better, some for worse.

I honestly can't see how anyone could feel like Bass hasn't changed any from 4 to 5, for example.
