The US cover art of DOA2: Hardcore

Has anyone ever deciphered what it's supposed to be, or what Tecmo was thinking? After all these years I still have no idea what I'm looking at.

I don't think it's anything in particular, iirc DOA2 hardcore dropped in 2000 which was like the new millennium for fighters, and I think they chose to show that with a sleek more minimalistic cover, especially since it's like the definitive version of DOA2 on PS2. Even the back imo kept it pretty simple and minimalistic which I think fits the franchise well.

Tbh while I think the cover is kinda empty since it gives me more racing game vibes like Enthusia with the sleek look, it does look more official since the standard cover arts before the DOA2 one were usually just pictures of the characters used in game with an action type background.

I just asked Itagaki on Facebook because I've always been curious as well. Never cared much for it and I really do think it contributed to the lack of sales.
