This whole playable roster consists solely of guest characters for that purpose. Your point eludes me.

After how well his games done he's pretty much cemented as a Tecmo all star anyway.
Well they chose most popular characters who are very popular and well established in their games. Nioh imo hasn't been out long enough to establish Will's popularity and he is the only character in the game you can use, so it's still just promotion for his game.
And not all of the cast is guest characters XD Some are original
The entire game of Musou Stars consists of guest characters though. Technically they are all guest characters starring in a game.
Also NiOh within a week is one of the best top 3 selling games this month. Character popularity isn't always the number one entry to be included in a game and it should stay that way.

So? Rio is the only character from Rio. Opoona is the only character from Opoona. Nobunyaga is the only character from Samurai Cats.

To some degree yeah but there are transformable skins that allow you to play others. I mean original is such a broad definition. Original characters (at least to a term) are ones who are entirely unique on their own or someone serving as a base or starting. The only thing that's not really original are characters who are either mimics copying another character or copying in design etc, but you were twisting the concept there just a bit to something that's not really there. I mean even within company involvement, they are still considered guest characters being played on a guest character game. This is no different from Heihachi from Tekken being in Soul Calibur within the same Namco company. He's still a guest character.
Personally, I like Hanzo (NiOh) and would of liked to see him playable with his own moveset rather than a skin, but there are so many Hanzo Hattori (since he's based off a real person) that he's not really original except for character design so that one is list of complications (William is the same thing, real person even Okatsu). There's even a Hanzo Hattori in one of the Warriors games from KOEI so there's that. Might as well just been the main character. Honestly that one is complicated, but his entry is not at all bad and still unsure on why is it an issue with some here.

Wait so is there gravures and volleyball in this game? Or maybe that was just a cutscene and a special move? It looked cool though and so was the casino stage which might be a Rio stage or for doax3. Marie looks cute in the collab outfit as well.

It looks to me like there's just a hub area where you can see all the playable characters gathered together, doing various activities, so on and so forth.
