What Happened? Dead or Alive 6 Video

So, he finally did it, lol. It's pretty much what I expected, that he'd have overlooked some things (actually I'm surprised the Evo debacle wasn't featured, as "core values" was the most meme-able moment from the whole DOA6 experience, only second in infamy next the the hair colour dlc). But he brought up some things I completely forgot about, like the development time for DOA6 being so short and so soon after them working on DOA5. Also a bit bothered by him referring to Koei Tecmo as just "Tecmo" rather than KT as that implies anyone of the higher ups left over from the old Tecmo were at fault for KT treating the series like a cheap cash cow... like a borderline moba gacha.

If he had done a bit more research he'd have found that it wasn't just the sex appeal that diehard fans were concerned about but that the gameplay for competitive fans wasn't holding up to what DOA5 brought to the series (remember seeing messages about multiple top players announcing they were dropping the game after just a few days or weeks after release). It didn't feel like they were trying to please everyone so much as fool each type of DOA fan, or rather that KT sabotaged the whole project with having too much control over what they expected from the project and TN's devs as well as not giving them the proper time and resources to make it a quality product, hoping it'd just ride off of DOA5's success.

And I thought we did find that Twitter leaker's name in the credits of the DOA5 arcade version? lol

Also, I was not expecting a Chocolate Rain reference in 2022. XD

After seeing how badly scxcr exposed him on how badly he fucked up in the Bloody Roar Retrospective, I'm not a fan, and I'm not gonna bother watching this video. For all I know, this is probably another hot mess of misinformation that puts DOA fans in a bad light.

Wow, I didn't know about that. I'll look that up. I'm not a fan of this guy exactly, but I've seen some of his videos and I've always found him to be a mixed bag. It's just interesting to see a popular outside perspective on what happened with certain games/series. I remember pointing out some inaccuracies in a previous video or two of his before. If there's a lot of people learning about a series I care for from this guy I wanna know what he's told them.

I wouldn't say he tore into DOA's fans or put the blame on our shoulders, the ultimate feeling is that he blames Koei-Tecmo for "trying to appeal to everyone and pleasing no one". But a lot of what he says might give outsiders the impression we're just horny toads that want the booba, lol. I mean, looking at the most vocal backlash to DOA6 news before it released does do a lot of that work without him having to, to be fair, but if that's the only DOA backlash that's covered that's all it's gonna look like, lol. And I think most people are actually in the camp of "if that's what the fans want then you should give the what they want" these days, anyways. The video's comments seem to be mostly DOA fans or people sympathizing with us.

Just seen it. To me, it just looked like Matt McMuscles only got his information from just mostly game articles.

IIRC, didn't Matt only had small hours of DOA gameplay experience a while back and then that was it?

Damn, his gameplays is rough.

The only +1 i'd probably give in is the story bits. I do agree that it's not the best in that department, but pretty much almost everyone is on agreement it wasn't the best, I mean most FG stories are not that great in general.

But for a game series like DOA, I do think you'd have to be truly involved with the community to detail it's shortcomings. Getting in touch with members who met the devs, events etc. There's people that's not "in-in" within the community still till this day believe DOA6's downfall was because of a single man.

I always find this comment amusing.

Where's the DOA5 community?

Why? What exactly is amusing about that part? Just do a search of "dropped DOA6" here and see all the comments. If your point is that it's easier finding more people playing DOA6 online than DOA5, that's entirely different from the point I was making. I'm talking about the top players in the competitive community's reaction in the time after DOA6's release. It's easier to find people playing SF5 online than SF3TS, what does that mean? It means one is old and one is newer, not much else.

The doa reddit page doesn't help matters either with that annoying stigma. Its basically porn over there.
The DOA6 GameFAQs forum is a similar story - seems to just be people who either want to post lewd stuff or go on crusades about which characters are OK to like and which ones aren't. It's a desolate place.

I literally just found this... like him or not, at least he's a huge Momiji fan, enough to make a whole video about it, lol (made before his DOA6 video)

I wasn't a fan of Matt's playtime through DOA2U, and since then just haven't cared to watch most of his videos. Outright saying that he doesn't give an f about lore, character, or story, while mocking the game for not having any lore, character, or story... The sad thing is his partner telling him that she really enjoyed the game and the series.

Edit: this video.

I really don't watch his videos that much, but he seems a lot more cringey when he isn't reading from a script. I find myself asking "what the hell is he talking about?" a lot. I don't think I've ever seen a video game enthusiast sound less like a video game enthusiast, maybe because despite saying he likes a game he seems to spend most of the time making fun of it... also ironic how he said he doesn't care about lore/character but then supposedly likes Momiji enough to "research" and make a video about her, lol. Tina and Momiji are his favorite characters from what I've seen, so that's still a plus for me, at least. His real opinion about DOA from what I gather is that it's one of the series he played in growing up so he's nostalgic for it, he really likes the women... in mostly an unabashedly shallow way, and he thinks the games look awesome and have good gameplay (DOA2 and DOA5 at least), and everything else is stupid, lol.
