Who here plays chess?

These are all great. As for chess, I never really played much, but I loved solving chess puzzles when I was younger. This thread is bringing back some good memories.

Figured I go ahead and plug this ... If anyone here hasn't yet seen the movie "Searching for Bobby Fischer", I recommend you should check it out sometime. It's a pretty interesting movie showcasing the upstart of young US chess prodigy Josh Waitzkin (now spokesman for the ChessMaster software, and a Tai Chi master), it is well-paced, has a pretty cool cast of supporting actors (Ben Kingsley, Joan Allen, Lawrence Fishbourne, etc), and does a good job of keeping the chess portions interesting to watch, while also never being too complicated to follow.

Also, for those who keep up with US chess players at all, the "real" Josh Waitzkin actually cameos in this movie, along with a few other known masters in US chess.

Here is a scene from the movie:

The best chess scene in any movie ever was in Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows. Seriously brilliant game and played primarily in their heads. Completely fabricated, obviously, but Robert Downey, Jr. and...well, that other guy sold it.

Double post rules don't apply since I waited about 20 days, so don't start! Anyway, got my SF 25th Anniversary chess set! I can see the box where it sits on my floor but I haven't done much more than unseal the box itself. It's still buried underneath a mound of packing peanuts. I'm gonna hold off on taking it out of the packaging at all until I can get my buddy over here with an HD camera for an unboxing vid. I'll post it up here when I get it. Box is fucking HUGE and it's relatively heavy at about 25 pounds. Pretty excited to open it, capture the event, and then box it back up and not ever play on it haha.

Didn't say I wasn't going to display it. Just not going to play it. In any case, I likely won't put it up at my current place. I'll just wait until I move again and put it up in a lit case.

Oh, it just seemed like you weren't doing anything with it since you said you were just going to box it back up.

I used to love chess as a kid! I played it with my dad all the time on a sweet Simpsons chess set we had. Did anybody play online during the days of Yahoo chess? That was my first taste of competitive online anything.

I competed in offline chess tournaments throughout my high school years and a few years afterwards, and played online on servers like ICC and WCL (mainly). I stopped for a while when I started getting into playing DOA4 and dabbing with other fighters. Recently I have had a bit of an itch to get back into the competitive chess scene.

I am currently uploading a terribly shot video of me unboxing my stupidly amazing Street Fighter chess set. I'll edit this post with the vid, but you can always follow my channel on YT. I'll be putting up a ton of DoA5 content and match vids (direct feed, not from cam) once it goes live as well. http://www.youtube.com/TheOriginalCyberEvil

EDIT: Video is now embedded. Obviously.

I'm very much up to Chess. I haven't played it in a very long time, but I used to play and I was OK at it I guess. You'd probably whoop me as I am now but I need to get back into the groove somehow. If any of you know a way to play, feel free to give me a holler so we can set something up. ;)

There were a couple mentioned here. I use Chess.com when I'm feeling like playing. Has some true multiplayer games as well as long-form invite based games and you can play it from your phone as well. Just don't play WizZyX if you're only so-so. He'll depress you lol.

I myself won't bother going to any of you for a game; Chess is just more of a when-I'm-bored thing. I'll just wait for one of you to come to me~
