Your "true" ranking/skill level

I developed a theory related to skill levels in games.

Basically there are 4 skill tiers:

Tier 1: The people that win most majors and are clearly better than most people at their respective games.

Tier 2: Pretty much Tier 1, but just aren't as adept as certain things. I'd wager that most people are at this level.

Tier 3: Know how things work, but not how to work them.

Tier 4: Button mashers, pure krogans, roll tier, etc. People clearly unfamiliar with the game that they are playing.

I've found that this applies to almost any game that has any sort of competitive aspect to it.

Hmmm I'd say in DoA I'm Tier 3 I know a bunch of stuff and I know what I need to work on it's just actually pulling it off, everyt other fighter I play I'm tier 4

Sigh, I think to be between Tier 3 and 4... Surely I'm not a button masher, but at the same time I don't know completely the working of the mechanics; likely I will become a full tier 3 (at least on the paper XD) when EMPEROR will end his useful tutorials.

I'd like to think that I'm in the Tier 3 & slowly going into Tier 2 neighborhood, just not sure about the degree. Also what of those who haven't touched a certain game in awhile? People leave things all the time only to come back later, sometimes they play as well as they "used to" or better, & sometimes they don't for whatever reason. So where would they lay? Also, are we talking strictly offline or online play or a combination, which adds another monkey wrench.

Kronin: "...between Tier 3 and 4" . Suuuuuure you are.

It's based on offline and online. Mostly because I've only ever run into Tier 4 players online.

Then I'll echo Kronin, probably between 3 & 4, though closer to 3.... I hope.

If going by the S to F route, I'm probably in the C to D+ category. I fluctuate within there, but it's also been sometime since I've been on this game so I'm probably closer to D+ if anything.

LOL, I don't know if you don't believe me because think that I'm a rank more high or more low than my assumption, but if something is certainly the second case. It's shameful the number of years that I passed playing DoA compared not to my skill in the game, but also just to my knowledge of it...

PS: Randzz maybe I met you online? Sorry but if this is the case I don't remember it.

No not directly, but through a pal of mine. I take him at his word & I'll leave it at that.

If I could evaluate myself, I'm a C at most (B+ on DOAD since I choose to play throwdowns because I don't lag there) but since I don't play online, I'm an F on DOA5.

I made this topic back in Oct of 2012 and back then, I said I was an A or possibly a B+.... I was an idiot.

Comparing my skill from now and then is like night and day and I can now say for certain I'm better than I was back in March 2013 when I quit. That being said back then I was probably a C+ or in the B range. Best case scenario being a B+.

Now on the other hand I'm a lot more comfortable with my current skill level and can give a more accurate grade. If E-Mann, Rikuto, Master, XCal, Steady, SweetRevenge etc are considered S to S+es, I can safely say I'm an A. A- at the worst.

I can beat basically anyone, but I lose to weaker players a lot more often than I should and despite being able to beat the best, they do win the majority of their matches against me largely without question. I still have much to learn.

You lose against weaker players maybe because of 2 reasons. 1. They button smash and this can confuse you and that can cost your match. Other the 2. You underestimated them. In the middle of the match you notice that he or she is really good what you dont have espected from the beginning and thats why you lose a match because you dont know what to do anymore. Be honest if you see someone a random with a F rank - E you underestimated them a little bit dont you ? That is the fatal point. So many people compares the other players with their rank which I think is stupid because the truth skill will be showed first if you fight or watch a match. Everybody can lose even the good players but losing can help you to get better and that is the good point. If you win all time then it could be possible that your character can change to the arrogant status ! Ok if you lose all the time it would be frustrated someone. Like I said I like the players who respect everybody and win in a fair match. That is the defintion for good players to me.
