from what I am seeing from the trailer, Lei fang is a defense beast Sabakis from side step, Sabakis leading into juggles, stuns that guaantee her free hits. Just the damage potential from this stage amazes me. This guys is no longer Doa4, and welcome to Doa5.

How come those renders look like Doau2 graphics. But those in game screen shots look way better. And yeah i know her eyes look creepy.

Guile's theme is definitely going to my DOA5/VF5 playlist.

The HD renders look awesome, I want the rest!

I don't like Leifang's face..
Her eyes are too light, which make her unusually huge pupils look even more awkward. Kind of like an animal's eye.
The shape of her mouth also makes it seem like she has an under-bite. I think her lips/mouth need to be a bit wider.
Though the thing about her mouth is just what I personally find ugly so I guess that's fine, but those eyes look very weird and need to be altered..

Aside from that....the trailer showed me very little as to what Leifang's bringing to DOA5. I don't think pairing her with Zack at this stage was a wise choice since she was totally overshadowed, and if "circus pals with Zack" is what I can expect from her DOA5 story...... Just...no.

Now, show us Tina next!

She has spent the last four games trying to beat up the boy she likes, act catty with the other females, and receive preferential shopping treatment.

You don't think the circus might actually develop her character a little?

There is... something wrong with her face though.

No.
Not at all. Joke storylines do absolutely nothing for any character that isn't already a joke, like Zack.
I'd rather see her do something in-character, even if it's redundant, than literally go off and join the circus for LOLs.
So yeah, I'm praying this has nothing to do with her story. And if it does, it had better be good..

I'm not going to comment on her face again.. It's freaking me out.

I just noticed that the audience/seats in the background look...terrible. I mean damn, pixels all over the place. That's kinda lazy =/

I literally just listed everything she has ever done in her story.... unless you count stripper-kicking that poor guy off the train.

You could say she is a supporting character to a supporting character. That's REALLY a minor role in story. Just what exactly are you looking for in character development? Some minor circus gags are probably the best the girl can hope for. At least it means she is doing something outside of chasing jann lee for once. She's got basically nothing to do with the doatec storyline at all, nor does she have any real motivation to be there outside of jann lee/gi.

Pretty difficult to forget them.

They don't exactly take up a lot space upstairs.

Besides DOA has such a fringe storyline with a lot of hard-to-find basic character background, the few people who actually do know it semi-accurately feel somewhat obligated to keep a hold of that information like custodians in case someone actually ever does give a damn.

It's become something of a joke recently, as now even Hayashi doesn't appear to know the actual character backgrounds anymore since he retconned the shit out of stuff in DOAD.

This series also has a horrible problem with mistranslations and differentiations between the localized versions early on. Near as I can tell, Jann lee was originally named Gi or Gai when he was a kid and this is what he was known by when he saved Leifang when she was 13. He was obsessed with bruce lee films and would wear a dragon emblem wherever he went, which is how she later tracked him down.

I've never seen any mention of Jann Lee's birthname outside of translated bios of the original game though, so even that part is sketchy at best. Be surprised if team ninja even considered it canon anymore.

The official Dead or Alive 5 website has been updated! Check it out! http://teamninja-studio.com/doa5/

You can find screenshots and the video of Leifang and Zack in the new circus stage we just revealed - The Show!

FYI, we've incorporated some Alpha Demo feedback. It's pretty subtle, though, so I'll do more system talk again later.

Here's the official press release:

TEAM NINJA REVEALS TWO NEW CHARACTERS AND VIDEO VIGNETTE FOR DEAD OR ALIVE 5

Today Team NINJA spotlights two new combatants joining the fighting roster for Dead or Alive 5, which isheaded to the Xbox 360® and PlayStation® 3 in September 2012. Lei Fang and Zack return to the Dead or Alive series in incredible fashion, showcasing stunning new character and costume designs and the lifelike detail that Dead or Alive is known for. Boasting all new style and even deadlier techniques, each of the new characters reflects a new look and feel complimenting the intense new generation of Dead or Alive combat. To premier these two new characters Team NINJA has released new stunning images of the characters and a video vignette showcasing both fighters in a vibrant new backdrop.

Lei Fang, also known as “The Tai Chi Quan Genius,” iswidely recognized as a master of T'ai Chi Quan. As a girl who grew up in a wealthy family, she is a woman of justice and bears a very independent spirit, but is also spunky, intelligent and cheerful. Lei Fang trains to defeat Jann Lee, who once saved her from harm. Her strengths lie in T'ai Chi Quan holds which use her opponent's power, and attacks from "Sabaki" and "Inashi" parries.

Zack, also known as “The Crazy Climber”, is a funky DJ with a positive attitude and a very original sense of style. An over the top fighter, he joins the Dead or Alive tournaments for money and fame. He has incredible fighting instincts, and taught himself Muay Thai just by imitation. His unorthodox style of Muay Thai has become so unconventional that no one can predict what comes next.

The battle between Lei Fang and Zack takes place in a dynamic new stage known as The Show, where fighting entertainment unfolds before your very eyes under the bright lights of big top! Tigers, rings of fire and ball-balancing clowns on trampolines - The Show is brimming with monkey business just waiting for some intrepid fighters with the moxie to put on the greatest show ever seen! A massive clown face with moving eyes and nose overlooks the arena. While all smiles this clown is serious business, as skilled players can execute a Power Blow, knocking their opponent in to the clown face creating a human cannonball! Now that’s entertainment!

Dead or Alive 5 is developed by Team NINJA and published by Tecmo Koei.

Nothing wrong with her face. She's probably the most authentic looking asian I have seen so far in a video game outside of the yakuza series and a few other games.
