Why is Lisa white now?

Yeah, except if TN suddenly decides to officially define her as something in Story Mode (Brazilian mother which would explain her Brazilian outfits, Mexican dad which would explain her fighting style), there is no need to debate. Lisa is a beautiful tribute to the American exoticism.

Maybe it is just easier to showcase the new shadow effect on a person that is slightly lighter. From an artistic point of view, there is more contrast between a darker and lighter object, which will allow for a more dynamic look.

Shit, I'd probably date both of em.

At the same time, if there was a little alcohol in me.
Interesting to hear of your proclivities, Rikuto. You seem more prudish when Kat cracks jokes about whale tails and the like during tourney coverage. By the way, if you guys don't know what I'm talking about, it's pretty cute.

Rikuto: :christie: *commenting about some game mechanic the fighters are currently utilizing*

Kat: :Bradwong: --And by the way, check out that costume on Leifang! She has a whale tail! D'you know what that is? Do ya, do ya?

Rikuto: ...:bayman:

God, the thought of Kat as drunken Brad makes me lol. X)

So...she is black Brazilian like Sean?

Edit: Screw it. She's black to me. I don't care anymore. She's look like Yoruichi for god's sake.

Non taken my friend, lol. I use her in VF5, and no matter what costume I make her wear I can't please my eyes. She has super DEM thighs, tho. She has a very manly looking.

I hope TRI Mike gets in this thread and share towards his thoughs about Vanessa. He's a huge fan of her hahaha

Vanessa looks better with a little customization. But then again, I don't think she looks bad.
Maybe I should give screens.
She was DIESEL in VF4/VF4EVO. I was drawn to her big booty though, so it didn't matter.

Ah, but don't misunderstand. It's not that I prefer black girls or white girls or even two girls at once. I just like women with confidence. If you insult an ordinary woman they tend to "appear" like it didn't bother them... until they get home. If someone insulted a woman with the confidence of Vanessa, all it would result in is a broken jaw.

I dig that.

DOA5 is a Japanese produced game, and the Japanese typically don't find Brown skinned women very appealing. That's why Vanessa got the bleach treatment in VF5, why Elena looks nothing like Kenyan girl, and why Sheva is so much lighter than the infected villagers she has to kill. The last time there was a brown skinned chick in a Japanese made fighting game was Grace in Fighting Vipers. The other 'Morenas' in fighting games are also 'light skinned'.

It's not really that surprising that the Japanese try to make these characters look more White; The Japanese White wash themselves. Most of the characters in any given anime/manga or Japanese produced video game who are supposed to be Asian look White. Most( if not all) of the White characters in any given fighting game are intentionally blonde. The contrast of blonde hair makes the Asian characters appear more Asian. This makes it easier for the game designers to make the Asian characters look more like Westerners in terms of face and build.

Having a light skin tone character from the start is different from having a brown skin tone character and then bleaching them to make them a lot lighter. Brown skin folks regardless of ethnicity generally frown upon bleaching. Sammy Sosa thought it would be cool to bleach his skin...he didn't really expect the U.S. and Dominican media to dig into him so badly, and fans to express so much anger. There was a huge negative backlash in India over a skin bleaching commercial. When the Jamaican musician Vybz Kartel bleached his skin, it was basically open season for all of the other Dancehall artists to insult him. A lot of people just don't like bleaching.

Maybe it is just easier to showcase the new shadow effect on a person that is slightly lighter. From an artistic point of view, there is more contrast between a darker and lighter object, which will allow for a more dynamic look.

Brown skin shows up better in light than lighter skin. It's why Brown skinned theater actors wear less stage make-up than their light/white skinned counter parts. It's also why White body builders essentially paint themselves brown. This also holds true in 3-D computer graphics. It's easy for a light color under a light source to get a washed out look compared to a darker color.

-You are correct, but im not talking about lighting, but shadowing. With shadowing the opposite effect happen with people of darker skin tones. you lose more detail as opposed to a lighter complextion.

Rikuto like dem Jerry Springer type black girls.. "Oh nooo you dih ent!!"

Confident. Not ignorant.

and you guys say DOAW has super casual discussions lol.

Well this discussion is a little more mature than what I normally find on DOAW. We're talking about design choices based on racial tension.

On DOAW the discussion might well have gone into "who cares what color she is, she's so pretty!! tee hee! But Kasumi's hair is better!"
