Senran Kagura Series

Nothing about her appearance or what she says is out of character and she's a ninja with big boobs guest starring in a game about ninjas with big boobs. She fits.

Ok, since this is a senran kagura thread, i can go into detail

Yeah, the design is mostly ayane, they just copy pasted her features over the default senran kagura model thing.
Let's talk about the differences though: Just in that intro gif, we see her sword glowing when she sheaths it, and some weird effect on her kunai. Is there anything wrong with that? No, it is the artstyle of senran kagura, and it doesn't match with DOA/NG aesthetics.
Her ninpo, the raging mountain god, is supposed to bring destruction, death, and what it does in the game? knocks people back.
Senran Kagura is like a musou, and as a musou, the attacks need to have way larger hitboxes than the weapon does, and that adds that anime glow effect to the weapons, the weapons don't actually touch anything, and that is again, different from the artstyle of DOA and NG in general, that was always focused on showing the impact of the fists, blades, and the results of said impact, contact, touching, punching, kicking, slicing, it has contact. And while some attacks have effects attached to them, they have a good reason to be there.
In general, scene direction is completely different, a different kind of over the top.

Do i say that against senran kagura? No, it is just to state how Dead or Alive doesn't fit here.

Now, talking about gameplay. Team Ninja delivers a complete different tier of gameplay uniqueness and excellency with DOA and Ninja Gaiden, from enemy design and A.I., to how your moveset works, iteraction with backgrounds, wall running, danger zones, and you can go on and on here.

Anyways, thanks for the info, i might try the games in the future, but i'm expecting a button masher, basically.

Any game can be a button masher tho...

This is ridiculously nitpicky, two franchises don't need to be identical right down to hit effects to fit together

SK has wall running, "creative finishers" (basically a fan service KO but it is stage interaction similar to what SFV does), and great enemy design. I remember there being concept art of all the grunt enemies but I can't seem to find it so here's the art for the yoma bosses from SK deep crimson

I meant enemy design more on gameplay aspects.

Let me put this in a simple way.

There is an enemy type in Ninja Gaiden 2, that most people will reffer as Claw Ninja.

They have different sets of melee attacks, but their mostly famous (our infamous) attack, is that they can throw incendiary shurikens, those projectiles will stick to Ryu, dealing small stagger on impact, but after a few seconds, exploding, dealing high damage. If you block, the explosion will give you chip damage, but you can use numerous invincible attacks and movement techniques to avoid the damage of the explosion.

Going deeper, those enemies are never alone, they always comes in packs with 5 minimum, going to 10 or 15 on screen at once, and they have a very synced up A.I. while one or two will run at you to attack you with melee, 3 or 4 will be running around you passively, and the others will be at the background, supporting the melee ones by throwing incendiary shurikens at you.

I can write much more about that ONE enemy type in ninja gaiden 2, my least favorite ninja gaiden.

You have to play ninja gaiden to see that is in a completely different tier of gameplay than most action games. Same way DOA is a complete unique beast in the fighting games in general, even being heavily based on Virtua Fight.

When i compared the effects usage, was not to be nitpicky, but to point out a big difference in general aesthetics, DOA is visceral, is impact, is action, Senran Kagura is flashy lights and clothes getting destroyed.

Isn’t this extremely similar to the SKEV enemies you were having trouble with @Mayor-Of-Mustard ? Those wolves that come in packs, cause freezing/burning status effects, and run in a circle around you that also have a leader that can coordinate their attacks. Then there’s the enemies with the backpacks that support melee enemies by hanging a little bit back and throwing status effect bombs at you.

So basically you can run into that same situation in SK.
You have to play ninja gaiden to see that is in a completely different tier of gameplay than most action games. Same way DOA is a complete unique beast in the fighting games in general, even being heavily based on Virtua Fight.
I’ve played Razor’s Edge and I liked it. The characters are much more enjoyable to use than their warriors orochi/all stars counterparts. I still like SK and feel like she fit right in.

‘Ayane doesn’t belong in senran kagura because attacks look more intense in DOA/NG’ is nitpicking

PBS came today! Some information:
  • Story Mode is set within 4 campaigns, Hanzo, Gessen, Hebijo and Crimson Squad. (Assuming Mikagura, and New wave don't open up later)
  • Daidouji, Jasmine, Kagura/Naruku and Mikagura sisters must be unlockable as neither are usable to begin with(and I'm pretty sure they're not DLC)
  • Less than 5 mins in and "Mr. K" is making erection jokes and innuendos lol
  • All the poses from EV and a bunch of new ones are unlocked from the get go in Diorama AND you can freely choose hairstyles this time around.
  • Single Player has 3 modes, Story, Paradise Episodes and V Road Tournament (basically a free play tournament mode, good way to use DLC characters)

I mean, right off the bad, I'd personally recommend you channge the jump and reload buttons. I personally switched them with L1 and R1 respectively, and being able to hover and aim simultaneously is a pretty big boon.

Just to add my two cents...

Different games are going to have different aesthetics, every game usually has it own style unless it's trying to follow a specific style. In regards to Ayane in SK, she fits in just as well as the Ikki Tousen girls. The artstyle is simple enough to represent her accurately while stll fitting in with the other SK girls. The gameplay is more about beating up grunts with flashy cool moves then complexity, so really any character could potentially fit as along as they have moves like that from their original series. Really it all comes down to whether you want to take a chance on the game/series, which obviously you don't have too. I didn't know anything about SK until the dlc collaboration they did with DOA, and decided to check out EV solely because Ayane is one of my favorite characters. Before I actually got it, I watched videos on youtube of the game, looked at screenshots and thought ehhh...idk. But now, I really enjoy this series, just as much as I do DOA, to the point were I'm planning to get the underwhelming PBS solely because it's senran kagura - I don't need the DOA incentive anymore.

PBS underwhelming? How exactly? I for one am finding it waaay better than Estival Versus especially since the roster has basically all the DLC characters sans collabs and 3 new characters on the disc.

So far PBS has more content and more replay value than EV did. I felt like I was done with the game after I finished the missions while PBS has that free tournament mode to keep me playing for a while.

By underwhelming, I mean it being more so a shooter - I personally don't like them, I still kinda wish it was more like EV with the cool specials and weapons. In EV, I replayed the in game missions and the dlc missions over and over again with different characters, and never really got bored lol. PBS still looks fun though...

Fair enough, different strokes as they say. I enjoy PBS a lot, I can't wait for DLC characters especially Sonico, Ayane and Honoka bring on emptying my wallet! Lol

I feel the exact same way lol I still play EV now and then

Anyone knows if you can party up with friends and play matches with them on this game? I'm genuinely curious.

Plus, it'd be cool to team up with people from FSD!
