I don't know about outfits, but they definitely need to step up Tina's definition if they're going for the "Cool" look. Girl is suplexing her own daddy. Let's see some representation through at the very least specular mapping.

Not asking for like, Rainbow Mika levels of savagery. Girl should definitely look like you don't want to take a hit to the jaw from her elbow or knee though.

I was also wondering if they will go for different body shapes this time…
Athletic/(reasonably) muscular for Mila and Tina and I guess making Honoka a bit chubbier (think Super Pochaco) could be a good way to “justify” her huge boobs. This also fits the tiny bit of character she has… her hobbies are pretty much “Netflix and chill” and her food preference in X3 is sweet stuff and all kinds of junk food lol

Just try to avoid any fat girl jokes if you don't want to substitute the objectification articles with fat-shaming think pieces (I'm waiting for the first violence against women article tbh “DoA took a tiny step forward and a giant leap back - How the series finally manages to show their women as people but still fails to treat them as such” … or something like that)

Ahhh the current state of affairs in this country. The sad thing is you're right that article is coming as soon as journalists who don't even play fighting games get their hands on the images of Kasumi getting clocked. Pretending like we live in the dark ages where Women's Division isn't a thing in UFC and MMA in general. Ronda Rousey famously caught a roundhouse to the jaw flat footed and nearly lost all her teeth and videos of it in slow-mo montages with comedic music were up on YouTube the next day. Watch them try and chastise DOA for giving the girls just as much punishment as the guys.

Also: Still don't see what everyone loves Honoka for unless it's the bust, but if Tina were that tiny she would look absolutely ridiculous so. No love for the OG big buster I guess.

You're missing the point. I never said anything about who is buying Dead or Alive. That is neither here nor there. The bottom line is Dead or Alive is an extension of Japanese culture and is seen as such. The last Naruto game sold more copies in North America than all of the rest of the world's sales combined. That doesn't mean to say Japan isn't their primary market, and who the experience is tailored around. Just because it sold more in NA, doesn't make it more Hollywood than Japanese. It is still at it's essence Japanese entertainment.
So again, there are AMPLE Japanese games that indulge in upskirt photography, sexualising highschoolers, objectifying images of women that do get any notable backlash from liberal media. So yeh, to think that this factors into how DOA navigates the industry is pretty delusional.

All Japanese games have upskirt and such tho, even if it isn't intentional, just look at Tekken and I love that Jasmine Masters gif xD

yall crying over it being about censorship have it all wrong just saying lmao

it's pretty obvious the team just wants to be taken a bit more seriously and also design their game to be a bit more realistic with characters and not over the top omg physics that look stupid asf. If anything it seems like the fans who are crying "sjw/censorship" are just trying to find a way to deflect the fact that their needs arent a #1 priority anymore.

anyways.

This is just how i see it and sorry its so long, but i really do feel like eroticism and sexualization don't have much of an impact on a games success or popularity (and they're both different things imo, bulky guys are stereotyped/sexualized as well) Ive heard people saying its the reason doa was never respected and scared players away from taking it seriously, but considering other games (even if not as extreme) are adding bikini dlc and jiggle physics to their games and no one chastises them, its just being hypocritical. And on the matter of ''they were respectable games from the start so people overlook it'' thats also a poor argument, and makes it sound like any game can get by on its title alone. I again bring up marvel vs capcom infinite, a HIGHLY loved and respected series that people have been begging for a sequel, and when they finally got one, they royally screwed up so bad the current player count on steam was single digits.. A game that wasnt even out yet got in evo and mvci didnt.

So if all it took was for a game to be respectable and loved from the start for it to do no wrong, then why did that game fail so poorly? And if sex is what kills a games respect, then why are tekken and street fighter and soul calibur still garnering so much attention? I don't have a ''my fighting game is better than yours'' or a ''my characters better than your character'' perspective and just look at things as middle ground as possible, and theres just nothing that leads me to believe any stereotypes actually have a negative impact on something so big that it becomes niche (tons of games have stereotypes) Fatal fury for example, that games even older than dead or alive and no one had an issue with shiranui mai being busty and skimpy clothed, doa didnt pioneer boob physics. Same goes for Chun li's chest, And ivy and her very christie similar character (to me anyway) And now we have games like snk heroines, and theres plenty of boob in guilty gear.

And i also wanna mention out of all these games, doa is the ONLY one that lets you turn the boob physics OFF, and no ones forcing you to choose the bikinis or skimpy clothes for tournaments, just as no ones forcing you in other games even tho they're there.

I can go on but i think thats enough to make my point that sometimes a game just doesnt blow up the way people want even when it seems good enough to, theres tons of games like that that hardly anyone knows, hence the term ''hidden gems'' Timing, perspective, marketing, theres so many reasons why a game wont become a hit, and ridiculous simple games get the attention of millions. Itd certainly be easy if we could just blame what we want to be the issue, but its usually never that simple. The end :p

Well first of all nobody said it only takes a game to be respectable to be successful. But it is a component.
Moreover when I google image dead or alive, the 90% of first 50 images are swimsuit pictures. When I google tekken there is a variety of images, but mostly the Michimas, when I google Soul Calibur a minority of the images are sexual. I believe TN are trying to reach this balance.

I'll bring it back on track for you.

Have you seen Helena's outfit? That looks like it's straight up 5 DLC for her. Black lacy thigh high stockings with heels, deep boob window in the top and the shoulders are puffy and sheer? Telling you the signs are there lmfao

They aren't toning back on their sexiness they're just hiding it for now. So let's boil y'alls debate down to a simple question and shake hands here:

Do you think TN is really toning down their Sexiness for good? No more boob jiggle for DOA?

They will most likely try to keep the C1 and C2 “stream safe” so TOs have an easy time making rules. They will also most likely keep Swimsuits out of the initial release (and probably no pre-order Bikinis either). I'd assume they will then probe the market with a variety of DLC outfits and whatever proves to be most profitable will determine the direction long-term. The rest will be as it always has been… some of the “mature” women will have a skimpy unlockable, the rest is tame stuff… I'll just say it again: We have 2 outfits so far, both are sexualized…

I doubt there will be no boob jiggle and quite frankly if there is actual demand for this I can see them add this post-release…

Now the people who were bitching ad jumping to conclusions before can finally shut up.

Nah dude, you see TN is just back paddling like mad.
Assuming the style of a single outfit will apply to the whole cast even with already present evidence to the contrary was totally reasonable.
And thinking because a feature is not present in an early stage demo, it couldn't possibly be in a later build or the finished product was also completely justified. /s (just in case)
