About morons online

I was playing a Jann Lee player today who fair & square kicked my arse all over the screen. It didn't matter who i picked (I ended up fighting with every character) & it didn't matter how many times i tried to change tactics & mix up my game abit, this fellow was plain & simple in another league to me when it came to skill level in this game. There is nothing wrong with that, i just had to pick my bruised fighter off the turf & have another crack, take the heavy defeats on the chin & keep at it, regardless of the oppositions rank.

I wasn't bitter about being belted by a player who was clearly a step above my level, I was annoyed with my own performance but i could never be bitter towards someone who is clearly a better player than I am. What did irk me was during every fight he would yell "WATAAH!!!" through the headset. I'm not just talking about post match or after a fight here, I am talking almost every time he got a hit in, & even during the character select screen.

*Gets punched*

"WATAAH"

*Gets kicked*

"WATAAH"

*Wins round*

"WATAAH"

*Selects Jann Lee at character select screen*

"WATAAH"

It's bad enough hearing Jann Lee himself say this, then i got some chap over the mic doing the same thing, with more effectiveness haha! I had the headset on myself & would never, ever mute someone unless it was absolutely called for. In this case, it was, just to save my ears from bleeding. At first i found it funny, & i laughed. "Haha, good game mate" in which he replied "WATAAH". After the 11th Wataah i was like "Okay champ that was cute to start with, not so after eleven times, can we perhaps narrow down on the wataahs now yeah?"Again, in which he replied "WATAHH".

Now i will be the first to admit that i can take a joke & love a good laugh myself. But reasoning with this bloke was like flogging a dead horse here & it actually got to a stage where you simply couldn't communicate with this guy properly. I'm now pondering to myself whether that really was bird man Jann Lee on the other side of that headset.

In fact, I am going to scroll through my players met list to see what his handle was. Because he was an absolute classic lol.

I find people online annoying(this goes for just about any game) so usually unless I'm in a party I don't use my headset. Just a few days ago I make a lobby and I constantly get people who has a horrible connection with me joining my game. For this reason I rarely create/join random lobbies. Anyways. I fight this player who was laggy as sh** against me(1 bar) and he played me in a Hitomi mirror match, beats me and taunt. I don't know what it is about people feeling they have to taunt me after a match. When it was my turn again I picked Tina and pretty much ran through him. I then ended the match with Tina's taunt where she blows a kiss(my favorite taunt in the game). The guy got so salty. Claiming that I was the one being laggy when he was the only one in the lobby lagging with me while others lagged with him. Also I don't know if people realize it or not, but whenever you choose a lobby to join it always tells you the host connection with you before you join. Considering I was host prior to him joining my lobby it showed him our connection so I don't know why people with bad connections choose to join my lobbies and further more complain when they catch a beating.

I also think people get upset because I'm currently a B- and people get salty when they lose to me(I mostly play A/S players). Most A/S players are so garbage in this game it ain't funny. Also people are not aware that I started on the PS3 and on there I'm actually a S rank. XD

At the end of the day I wish people who have a bad connection with me would stop joining my lobby. I can't wait after the patch because I'll play lobby matches more after the patch and at least I know I can kick people who lag.

Yeah fair enough too mate, using a headset isn't for everyone & as you said, you're probably better off without it sometimes, especially when you get opponents that are just impossible to communicate with & behave beyond the realms of immaturity.

Like i said in my post before, i am all for a joke & enjoy a good laugh, I think it's important to enjoy yourself, it's natural, but when someone crosses the line to the point where no form of communication can break down the stupid barrier, then you're better off saving yourself the ear ache & putting the headset away. Too much stupid is never a good thing & sadly it can be found in large quantities within this vile creature we call the internet. Sometimes there will be a time regardless of how patient you're when you will just push the mute button & say "enough is enough".

First of all the lobbies are listed by connection speed like 4bars first than 3 2 and so on... But after all the 1bar connections there are more lobbies without any indication of the hosts connection so sometimes someone may join to see whats the deal there... But yeah there are so many players that lag like hell i wish they would just play themselves an stop joining lobbies with "decent" connections...

Yesterday i was in a lobby with 4 or 5 people one joins having 1 bar, it was unplayable (i ve played with people from the us with less lag) i lost he played some other guy and when he lost he said you re lucky because you lag!!! And i reply like seriously? you re the only one with a one bar here the guy you just lost to is from a defferent country than me and we have 5 bars... And he replies by saying that hes brother downloads stuff and thats why hes lagging... I mean what the hell you know you re gonna lag you wont be able to play (as good as your connection - netcode allows) you make it unplayable for the rest of the guys, and you complain to top it off? I m using the internet some years now, but i still cant figure out some people online... (i ve stopped trying actually but still :$)

The first thing any sensible person does before going online is check that there is absolutely NO other online activity on their internet connection. I usually just plug off my computer's wlan adapter to be sure of that, since evil Windows can download updates automatically.

Yeah I don't join lobbies that don't have connection indication because most likely those are laggy, too.

might be a dumb Q, but... is there a way to see what your own bars look like?

What do you mean? In lobbies it shows you the host connection prior to joining the lobby and once you're in the lobby it should show you your connection with each player. Another reason if people on to "check" connection they can spectate and see people connection before deciding to play them. Rank/Simple match I believe you only see your connection with that player on character select. Obviously your connection varies depending on the player/s you're up against.

are you saying the bars are describe connection to me? I just assumed they were a general rating of that persons connection, or their connection to the DOA server. tbh i don't know much about how it works.

so if i see someone who's 2 bars, they see me as two bars? seems a bit shit that as i pay thru the nose for cable speeds. I assumed i'd be a max bar kinda guy.

Naturally the better connection you have, the more likely you are to have a good connection with someone else. Unless their connection is ass.

I don't think there's a DOA server. That is the difference with VF5FS and SC5. DOA5 is peer to peer.
VF5FS and SC5 are P2P too. Well, If I had to risk a number I'd say +95% of online gaming nowadays uses the P2P protocol.

===============
I'll go a bit offtopic in here, but it's also educational.

Reading some of the posts here in the thread I found there some misconceptions. Lag or latency is mainly determined by the distance between players. Let's say if some guy from USA play against someone in Australia, both players will get a nice dose of lag. Any of those players could call the other a lagger. They're both getting lag, more or less. It's worth mentioning that one of them has to host the match, thus getting an advantage. The one hosting the match (not the lobby, two different things) should have a decent uploading bandwidth, and of course it should be dedicated to the game.
Please, don't go online if you have a shared network and you know your sister is on youtube, facebook, etc or your roommate is torrenting shit. It doesn't matter if you have a 100mb connection, because first you won't get those 100mb all the time, and secondly a saturated connection will lag.
And since we're here, I'll bring up the wireless vs wired thing. A wireless connection just can't ensure you won't get any packet loss. Packet loss = lag. Sure, it could be minimized by having a strong/quality signal. How you do that? placing your router within the same room of your console and avoiding any other IR device that could cause interference. Yeah, kinda defeat the purpose of having wifi in the first place. So you guess right: play on wired connections if you have the chance.

tl;dr edition:
Lag is determined by 1) distance; 2) upload bandwidth, then download; 3) wireless/wired

It's kinda funny I get to know this stuff. My profession has absolutely nothing to do with all this crap (I'm a physical therapist), yet in an indirect way gaming is forcing 'knowledge' into my brain lol.

I dealt with my first moron ever online... sort of.

He actually insulted me pretty badly, calling me the D-word which I so hate... but then he followed up with a compliment.

Must be bi-polar or something.
