Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge General Discussion

RE did some things right, and I do enjoy it because it offers some things the others don't (being any character in level select, good gore on the PS3/in co-op, etc.) but ultimately, I've come to realize that a lot of my love for it was just being too generous. The level design is horrible and bland, the visuals are the least impressive respective to their time, the soundtrack is horribly forgettable, Ryu's controls are no longer sharp and are now sluggish and inconsistent, enemies are not only designed poorly (boring) but also have horrendous AI, balance and hit reaction, Ryu acts like a pussy, almost all weapons are less fun than their NG2 counterparts, etc.

Long story story short, I still like the game a lot, but compared to NG:B/NG2, it's actually quite depressing. For every step forward it takes, it takes 50 backward.

No matter how much you try to polish a turd it is still a turd

And that's what NGRE is, a pretty turd

Opinions.

In any case, got my Hayabusa armor tonight. All that I have left to do is grind out level 99 (currently 65) and then I'll have all achievements.

Wrote a really long post to you, Brute, but it's not really worth putting it all out there. Instead I'll just say this: I like the game but have a not-so-short list of complaints. Others don't like it at all and I get that. After the insane amount of bullshit that E3 brought about on the internet, though, I'm just through dealing with constant complaining. Life sucks enough without having the entirety of the internet whining, complaining, bitching, and arguing with each other and dragging you into it. I choose not to deal with it, simple as that.

I get that. God knows there's enough bitching on this forum.

I'm just hoping that for NG4 (whenever that is) TN recognizes the best elements of all three games and incorporates those to make the ultimate NG. I'm sure it can be done, and for me it would be a dream come true if it did.

The varied exploration elements, enemies, and environments of NG1.
The clean and refined combat system of NG2.
The Steel on Bone system of NG3RE.

Sounds like my ideal Ninja Gaiden game written on paper pretty much XD

did they patch the t-rex fight? it didnt make me want pull out my hair this time
I would be in a state of shock if they did.

NG1 had the most refined combat system, even over 2. 2 just contained more visual splendor, gore, speed and some new cool moves and gameplay mechanics.
I'd like to see:

-Cool exploration elements and atmosphere (NG1)
-Tight, refined combat (NG1)
-Item management (NG1)
-Good, rhythmic boss fights (NG1)
-Unique and exciting enemy designs (NG1)
-Speed and gore (NG2)
-Obliteration techniques (NG2)
-Amazing, varied environments (NG2)
-Plethora of kickass weapons with effective and intuitive moves and control schemes (NG2)
-Great music (NG1 & 2)
-Single-player trials/mission modes (NG1/NG2)
-Chapter challenge/level select (NGS2/RE)
-Co-op missions (NGS2/RE)
-Multiple playable characters in level select and mission modes (RE)
-Steel on Bone altered so that it can be done on any uninterrutable grab-type move, but cannot be chained after one connects. Instant kill on small enemies, damage equivalent to a solid combo string on large enemies and bosses (sorta RE)
-Good alternate costumes (all rereleases, aka: Black, NGS2, RE, etc.)

As you can see RE offers the least of my ideal Ninja Gaiden, but it still did some cool stuff that I'd like to see return in NG4.

Eh NG2 combat is much better than NG1

Though NG1 A.I I thought was way better then NG2s

Being back explorations in NG4

Let's keep the NG4 stuff to that specific thread to keep the focus.

EDIT: Just got my last achievement. Razor's Edge is done.

Plenty of people are still playing it on both platforms. Myself, the grinding I had to do to finish it off has made me not want to play again for a good long while. I have friends on Live playing daily still. Not sure about other folks here.

lol I have this weird cycle where i would love ng3/ngre then get so fed up with it and start loving ngs2 but then start hating it and go back to ng3/ngre, back and forth cycle :p

as for ngs1/black I find it real boring now >.>

Black is timeless for me and I found Sigma to be pretty lackluster. Razor's Edge I genuinely loved for reasons I've already gone into. I'd really like a brand new game that's a best of style gameplay-wise, with some new stuff thrown in. Ninja Gaiden 1 style dodge, OTs and UTs in the NG2 style, and Steel on Bone from Razor's Edge, though I'd like SoB to be more universal and also work on all bosses. It works on some and doesn't break them so I see no reason we can't do it on the rest.

But to keep this specific to RE, I've had the same cycle with you throughout the franchise but it was a lot less with the original and Black. There's a couple parts of the game that drag quite a bit but you can power through them pretty quickly. Razor's Edge I loved until I played Ultimate Ninja and started doing UN trials and grinding level 99. Some odd design decisions held those particular parts back for me.

Well after putting in 400 hours NG vanilla + black combined i just cant seem to enjoy it mind you from 2007-2009 ill i had was an original xbox so all i played was NG for 2 years

But yea black does still hold a special place in my heart

When i bought vanilla few months after i found about black and wanted it so bad (mind you i was 15 back then and had no money) i actually had dreams about buying black and finally getting to use the lunar lol! But then i finally got it and loved and always will

This is a really really really lame question but

How do you effectively kill those stupid dogs? I can kill them pretty easily but never manage to do so without taking damage from their biting and lunging. I've taken to just jumping all over shooting arrows and throwing kunai or shuriken until they're all dead.

I've tried googling like crazy so I wouldn't have to ask this embarrassing question but found no results.
