I think you should give it another chance, I used to hate it to but im actually starting to like it now though I still do hate the recovery on the slide!
Try playing the ultimate trials, they are really really fun

I find the game great. It has some stupid shit but when you understand what it wants it's great. I need to start grinding to get my Momiji Ultimate ready. Really it should be Misty but I'm on a Momiji kick.
The controls simply aren't sharp and responsive, which given it's speed is detrimental (deadzone is fucked, directional change mid-string and on land is horrible). The auto-target is worse than it ever has been in the series. Things are so damn random it's insane (hit Y as an enemy glows red, Ryu does special SoB attack, attack hits enemy, enemy still glowing red, doesn't SoB. why? 'cause fuck you. ditto OTs). The camera regularly bugs out and shows LITERALLY NOTHING. If an enemy can be SoB'd than that IS the approach you have to use on them. Boss fights are dumb and boring. Hitstun is basically non-existant since enemies can dodge out pretty much whenever they damn well please (don't get me started on Van Gelfs). Lifelines are handled stupidly (ninpo/free UTs or w/e).
That's just half of the bullshit I've been wading through in the very short time since I popped it in. It simply isn't fun.

I personally rate RE above all releases of NG2. My list goes
NGB>NG>RE>NG2>NGS>NGS2>NG3
Dragon Sword was phenomenal but not a normal entry. There are still a lot of problems that are holdovers from NG3 but I really enjoy RE overall. We're all hardcore fans, though, and our opinions are all very different. I think we share most of what we think are the best parts of the engine but how we think things come together can differ.

What I dislike about NGRE is the recovery in the sliding and the fact they ruined almost all the old NG Bosses

Alexi is just annoying and dodges almost 90% of your hits
Fiend Genshin is ruined cuz of the recovery in the slide, can't really fight him up close because when you slide his attacks will hit you and his underworld drop connects even if you block
Marbus is glitchy as fuck
Volf was always a noob
Genshin is whatever
Doku is whatever
Alma I don't even know why they added her shes a joke now
And they basically under powered every weapon except the DS and Scythe and it really shows in the harder trials especially the BOTA why did TN have to remove Foward T/Y D:
